ABOUT OUR JOB

Part of the Human Resources team, this entry-level position will focus primarily on supporting the Payroll Coordinator. This individual will be an integral piece of the City's Biweekly Payroll process by performing front-line support, including data entry and generating reports upon request from internal and external customers; utilizing the City's HRIS and Microsoft Excel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provides exceptional customer service; entering and maintaining data integrity in Human Resources and Payroll systems; answering phone calls and emails from employees.
  • Provides administrative and operational support to the Human Resources/Payroll department and assists in various research projects and or/special projects.
  • Responds to internal and external inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Learns and maintains knowledge of the City's Policies & Procedures.
  • Assists Payroll Coordinator in processing timekeeping information from multiple locations and assembling for import into payroll program; serves as a backup for duties of the Payroll Coordinator including effectively running payroll when needed.
  • Prepares and maintains various reports and spreadsheets for the Payroll Coordinator.
  • Performs day-to-day tasks and responsibilities of one or more of the various functional areas of Payroll:
    • Salary survey support
    • Data entry of all employee-related transactions resulting from internal changes, new hire paperwork, and employee self-service and terminations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.
  • Maintains confidentiality and uses discretion at all times.

The Human Resources and Payroll Specialist is an essential individual contributor to the Human Resources team. An ideal candidate will have excellent and practical communication skills, a professional and approachable manner, and a willingness to collaborate with an innovative, customer-service-driven team.

Successful candidates must have a strong attention to detail, experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Outlook; the willingness to learn and be able to work well independently and as part of a team.

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED), Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred and
  • 2 (two) year's experience or training in Human Resources, Payroll, or related environment.
