PURPOSE
To describe the responsibilities and expectations for patient sitters.

POSITION SUMMARY
The primary duty of the sitter is to keep the patient under close observation, meaning that the patient must be within line of sight at all times, in order to prevent the patient from injuring themselves or others.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient sitters:

● perform under the supervision of the patient sitter supervisor, EVS supervisor, EVS assistant director, and EVS director;

● only act in a supportive role with respect to nurses, including:

  • helping nursing staff re-position a patient,
  • assisting a patient to the restroom, and
  • assisting nursing staff in transferring a patient.

● may assist the patient with eating a meal, with the exception of Baker/Marchman Act patients;
● provide companionship for the patient and alert the health care provider if the patient engages in activities that can result in injury;
● must never leave the patient unattended; and
● must complete the Continuous Observation Record daily and meet a 100% completion rate of the record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
● Able to lift 0-40 lbs. frequently.
● Capable of standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling, sitting, and reaching continuously throughout the shift.
● Capable of pushing and pulling a maid cart, linen cart, patient, or equipment (over 100 lbs.) on tile and carpeted surfaces continually throughout the shift.
● Capable of pushing and pulling furniture and equipment (25 to 300 lbs.) frequently.
● Capable of lifting furniture, patients, and equipment frequently.

OTHER JOB EXPECTATIONS
● Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and evening hours as needed per assignment.
● Because patient sitters interact frequently with facility employees, patients, and family members, the patient sitters must be able to communicate clearly with others (verbally and in writing) in English when working in patient or patient-related areas.

  • sliding boards
  • mechanical lifts
  • transfer chairs
  • mechanical stand assisted lifts
  • motorized beds, etc.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $11.00 per hour
