Patient Services Coordinator, BinghamtonUnited Health Services is seeking a Patient Services Coordinator to join our GI Services team in Binghamton, NY. This is a BENEFITS-ELIGIBLE position.

Patient Services Coordinator Overview
Under the direction of the Medical Director medical providers and/or Nurse Manager, this position’s primary function is to process referral requests, and obtain authorization for medical services admission to the inpatient rehabilitation medical services and/or admissions and coordinate all aspects of the admission process if applicable. The responsibilities of the Patient Services Coordinator include data entry of referrals and authorizations, verification of eligibility and daily communication with insurance companies. The Patient Service Coordinator works closely with the clinical team and medical providers to provide care for our patients in a timely manner.
Patient Services Coordinator Key Responsibilities and Expectations
Demonstrates understanding of insurance authorization and referral process, with knowledge of health plan resources and contacts for facilitating timely and effective patient referrals.
Accepts and returns patient and referral source phone calls timely, communicates effectively.
Communicates with patients and referral sources regarding any issues that arise with insurance, such as denials or pre-authorization issues.
Gathers necessary documentation required to facilitate the admissions.
Maintains effective record keeping system for tracking all aspects of the referral and admission process.
Documents all communications with the patient, referral source, health plan, and staff within the EHR system.
Prioritizes referrals, responds immediately and expedites most urgent referrals.
Promotes and facilitates the compliance and of Joint Commission, NYS DOH, Infection Control and all regulatory standards.
Participates in Performance Improvement activities within the office.
Provides administrative support to the Medical Directors as requested.

Position Qualifications
Minimum:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Two (2) years experience working in healthcare.
Two (2) years experience working in customer service.
Preferred:
Knowledge of insurance referral process
Knowledge of Medical Terminology
Basic computer skills; EHR, Excel, Microsoft Office
