Essential Job Duties

Performs all tasks related to pre-registration and registering of inpatients and outpatients including, insurance verification, securing and calculating upfront collections with co-pays, and co-insurance in an efficient, accurate and manner to ensure that patient, and hospital needs are met.

Required Skills

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with staff, patients, guarantors, insurance companies, and physicians.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail; accurate data input, spelling, reading, and mathematical skills required
  • Demonstrate the ability to learn quickly, and follow directions as outlined in policies or given by supervisor
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge in Word, Excel, and ability to maneuvering through multiple screens in a timely manner
  • Insurance knowledge
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast and high-pressured environment
  • Stringent adherence to all HIPPA laws
  • Strong typing skills 40 and up wpm is required

  • Communicates accurately and appropriately and is adaptable to changes in assignments and priorities

Communication/Knowledge

  • Excellent customer service and phone skills with a background in the medical industry Required
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with staff, patients, guarantors, and insurance companies

Education/Experience

  • Required 2+ years of previous experience performing patient registrations within a hospital setting preferred.
  • Functional understanding of core systems for patient registration, insurance verification and financial counseling.
  • Knowledge of insurance company practices regarding reimbursement preferred
  • Understands the impact of patient registration accuracy on billing and collections.

Preferred Skills

  • NAHAM (National Association of Access Management) Certification.
  • Insurance billing experience strongly preferred
  • Medical terminology knowledge strongly preferred
