Schedule: Part-time evening weekday and Saturday hours. Hours will increase during summer.

Overview


This position involves supporting and assisting an individual who experiences developmental and physical disabilities with daily living skills and community inclusion activities. Responsibilities include providing direct care, attending and participating in community events, recreational activities, etc. Employees need their own transportation to and from multiple job sites. Individuals receiving support are often dependent on employees for transportation needs. The employee should focus on teaching and modeling skills that foster independence and community integration.


Responsibilities


  • Implements support services as outlined in the Plan of Care, including but not limited to, activities of daily living, day habilitation, supportive living, inclusionary activities, and active learning.
  • Under the direction of the individual’s physician, assists the individual to correctly take medications with documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, families, and professionals.
  • Performs lifting duties safely and uses appropriate techniques and body mechanics when performing job duties.
  • Assists individuals with daily personal hygiene, dressing, toileting, repositioning, feeding as needed.
  • Transporting clients to and from personal appointments and community events
  • Models positive communications and promotes community connections with individuals.

Skills


  • Ability to work with kids.
  • Comfortable redirecting boundaries.
  • Comfortable working in clients home for parts or all of the shift.
  • Knowledgeable of how to maintain hygiene and skin integrity for children when changing.
  • Good ability to read non-verbal cues.
  • Awareness of choking hazards.

Qualifications


Required

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Desired

  • Six (6) months experience working or volunteering with individuals who experience disabilities preferred.

Other

  • Must be 18 years or older, per State of Alaska regulations.
  • Possess a valid driver license, insurance, and provide a driving record that meets agency guidelines.
  • Pass a criminal background check under state regulation.
  • Attend all necessary trainings (CPR and First Aid).
