POSITION TITLE: Outreach Program Assistant
REPORTS TO: Outreach Services Manager
RELATIONSHIPS: Responsible to Outreach Services Manager. Does not supervise other employees. May work with interns or volunteers. Interrelates with all staff members. Interacts with personnel in other community agencies when providing advocacy for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. This is a 40 hour per week, full time position.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
- Provides crisis intervention and advocacy and empowerment for survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
- Provides crisis intervention and advocacy by phone for survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault and completes appropriate paperwork as generated by each call.
- Initiate and complete intake documents and procedures on participants entering the outreach program.
- Enters participant data into W.S. database needed.
- Furthers the goals of Dawn Center by working with all survivors in an empowering way.
- Carries out responsibilities with participants in a fair and consistent manner.
- Assists participants in meeting basic needs through donated items assistance when available.
- Provides participants with access to community services such as housing, SNAP benefit applications, transportation, medical needs, Crime Victim Compensation Applications, etc. as indicated.
- Be fully conversant with outreach operation policy, procedures, and guidelines, and administer them as per policy.
- Is respectful and non-judgmental in all dealing with participants and vendors.
- On-Call to accompany victims of sexual assault to S.A.F.E. exams.
- Works with Law Enforcement as needed.
- May assist with monthly statistical reports.
- Other duties as assigned by Outreach Services Manager.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: Assists with additional record keeping tasks.
PROHIBITED FUNCTIONS: Does not respond to requests from media.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Some formal education in counseling or social work preferred.
- Training in domestic and/or sexual violence issues and crisis intervention may substitute for formal education at the discretion of the hiring manager.
- One year of crisis intervention experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of the dynamics and effects of domestic and sexual violence. Ability to show caring and empathy toward survivors.
- Ability to provide effective and immediate crisis intervention for participants.
- Ability to work independently and make sounds judgments.
- Ability to establish and maintain personal boundaries.
- Ability to communicate positively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to keep concise, accurate records.
- Must be able to pass Level II background screening.
- Valid Florida driver’s license and automobile insurance.
- May require evening and occasional weekend and/or holiday availability.
- Must be able to work with culturally diverse community with sensitivity and professionalism.
