Evaporated Coatings Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Optical Coating Technician to join their team in Willow Grove, PA .

Job Summary

The Optical Coating Technician is responsible for the deposition of high quality multilayer thin film coatings on optics and photonic devices in a clean and safe production work environment. The technician works within a production team to help plan, produce, and evaluate the performance of these coatings to ensure that all customer requirements and expectations are met. The technician primarily focuses on the efficient and safe operation of the coating chambers and tooling used for this deposition. Routine maintenance and cleaning of the equipment is also required. Strong attention to detail and precision analysis are essential to this job.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Reads paperwork including drawings and work instructions to determine required specifications. Confirms with engineers and supervisor that process will meet specifications.
  • Operates vacuum chambers to deposit multilayer thin film optical coatings.
  • Maintains organized and detailed records of chamber set-up and coating process parameters.
  • Verifies performance of coatings by various measurement techniques. Completes paperwork and documentation required by customers.
  • Communicates and collaborates with the production staff, engineering, production management and the quality control department.
  • Cleans and maintains coating fixtures and equipment. Performs basic maintenance on the equipment.
  • Applies safe work practices when working with vacuum coating chambers including work with electrical equipment, pneumatic valve operation, hot tooling and required safety equipment.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two year certificate from a college or technical school with mechanical, electrical or optical background; or one to three years related experience and or training.
  • Minimum of 3 years operating equipment in a precision production environment.
  • Experience with vacuum coating equipment is a plus.
  • Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft products required.
  • Basic math skills, critical analysis skills, and the ability to read and interpret drawings are essential.
  • Must possess well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, and be self-motivated
  • Ability to solve problems in both group and individual situations.
