This position will require travel to Mobile AL and Biloxi MS.

As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will conduct eye exams in order to obtain an extensive amount of data, as delegated by the physician, to allow for proper professional diagnosis of patients’ conditions. Technicians are responsible for collecting and documenting patient medical history for the ophthalmologist’s reference.

Job Type: Full-time, On Site with the ability to travel to multiple locations as needed.

Reports to: Team Lead

Responsibilities:

  • Provide quality patient care with consideration for each patient's needs.
  • Triage of patients throughout clinical hours.
  • Perform accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks.
  • Provides back-up to the ophthalmic photographer regarding fundus, exterior and anterior segment photographs.
  • Instrument Maintenance.
  • Administrative Tasks.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED required, some college or postsecondary optical training preferred.
  • Two to five years' experience as a certified ophthalmic assistant.
  • Demonstrated, advanced comprehension of the ophthalmic assistant skills as outlined by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
  • Basic understanding of optics and the ability to perform refractometry.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathetic personality with concern for patients’ needs.
  • Strong organization with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a productive and contributing team member.
  • Demonstrated comprehension of the principles of optics, refraction, and contact lenses.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive work ups on three patients per hour.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Must be capable of working at different locations some days as needed by the practice.
  • Valid proof of certification as an ophthalmic assistant.
  • Valid CPR certification.

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of safety, infection control, documentation, and quality improvement protocols.
  • Knowledge of new products and the ability to explain or demonstrate the benefits.
  • Experience with electronic scheduling system and electronic medical records (EMR).

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in a medical office setting.
  • Physical demands of position: Combination of standing, sitting, walking, stooping, bending, and reaching. Occasionally must lift/carry up to 50 pounds.

Salary Negotiable based on Experience.
