Job Summary

The Teaching and Learning Lab (TLL), is a mission-driven organization that prioritizes a diverse, inclusive culture and work/life balance. The TLL supports faculty members at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) as they create residential and online learning experiences using a variety of pedagogical and technological approaches. We are seeking several new Online Learning Fellows to help develop and deliver the first fully-online Ed.M. degree offered by the School. The Online Learning Fellows will also support the How People Learn course and other offerings with the Foundations curriculum. This effort requires collaborating with Learning Designers, Learning Technologists, and faculty-led teaching teams to build and support online courses on the Canvas Learning Management System, ensuring that all content is accessible for all learners and the course experience runs smoothly online.

The work will be fast-paced, collaborative, detail oriented, and focused on both faculty and student support. Successful candidates will be able to learn new processes and technologies quickly and be interested in a career in learning design or educational technology. On-the-job training will be provided for building Canvas courses, using approved tools for teaching, adhering to accessibility guidelines, and managing Library reserve readings.


Position Description

The responsibilities described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Duties (individual Fellows may focus on one or more sets of tasks):

  • Lead Canvas course construction or refresh of assigned online courses
  • Set up approved tools within Canvas, including Zoom, Harmonize, Slack, Sharepoint, and others
  • Participate in course design meetings
  • Develop training materials for Teaching Fellows
  • In partnership with the Library, secure access to required readings and populate the Library Reserves.
  • Assist with developing learning assets for online delivery
  • Support teaching teams during delivery, including participating in dry runs, setting up course links, and troubleshooting required technology
  • Develop course refresh plans and timelines
  • Other duties as assigned
This is a 12-month term position.

Basic Qualifications

Any candidate wishing to be considered must supply a cover letter in addition to their resume.

  • Advanced coursework or professional experience in education technology and/or learning design
  • 2023 HGSE Ed.M. graduate
  • Experience working in Google and Microsoft Office productivity environments
  • This position requires regular evening work between the time of 5:00pm – 7:00pm ET Monday – Thursday during course delivery. Exact schedule TBD.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Preferred characteristics:

  • Comfortable working with HTML
  • Comfortable with working in a fast-paced, remote environment
  • Experience working within a LMS (Canvas preferred)
  • Teaching experience (online preferred)
  • Able to work independently and take direction
  • Highly detailed and able to manage multiple tasks

Working Conditions

HGSE is currently developing dynamic workplace models which will actively support a combination of on-campus and remote work (within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business) where business and operational needs allow. You and your manager will discuss the best schedule based on your role and operational need. If your role allows for remote work, please note that all remote work must be performed within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA (Only Exempt), CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). Please also note that Harvard will withhold each applicable state’s required tax and other withholdings from your paycheck for the time you work there.

Our business hours are Monday - Friday, 35 hours a week.
