The Association of Test Preparation, Admissions, and Private Tutoring (TPAPT) is seeking college advisors to help students in grades 9-12 prepare for the college admissions process.

Position: College Admissions Coaching

Classification: Contract (1099)

Hours: Seasonal, 10-25 week

Compensation: $50 - $70/hr

Location: Remote

From the Chapter:

We have been fortunate to have a growing brand, a growing client base, and are now in search of counselors with the ability to connect with kids and families, be up on the latest trends in college admissions, and to advocate for students through the ups and downs of the entire process. We believe that college admissions is about fit, and we hope you do too! If you are ready to see what it is like to work with students and their families in an independent setting, we would love to meet you.

We do our best to make the process as fun, stress-free and as personal as possible.

We’re looking for experienced admissions officers or high school counselors. I’ll be honest— it’s not always rainbows and butterflies. It’s time-consuming and demanding. The work requires some nights and weekends, but the return is the best part. When the students achieve, you achieve! Sometimes the kids will tell you they got into school before they tell their parents!

We would love to hear from you if:

  • You have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree, added bonus!)
  • You are interested in working with students on college selection, creation of possible,

reach and likely schools lists, resumes, interview skills, application essays/supplements,

and some knowledge of financial aid

  • You have experience with the college planning process (including college admissions)
  • You excel at the challenges of working with high school students (and their parents)
  • You have strong interpersonal communication skills to establish rapport with students

and parents

  • You have strong knowledge of grammar/general rules of writing
  • You have an infectiously positive, upbeat, "can-do" attitude
  • You enjoy a flexible schedule and don't mind working in the evenings or on weekends
  • You're excited about taking the occasional road trip to visit college campuses
  • You’re very familiar with the U.S. college application process/essays

Although not required, it would be great if:

  • You enjoy public speaking
  • You pride yourself on being a grammar guru

As a member of our staff, you will have the opportunity to work with as many kids as you can handle with the guidance and supervision of one of our lead counselors. If you are passionate about helping kids, and have knowledge of the college process, well, you are more than halfway there.

Compensation will depend on experience, with many opportunities for growth through hard work, team commitment, and a passion for student success.

Qualifications:

  • Passionate about driving a process of change for high school students (8th -12th grade) via academic, extracurricular, and personal growth
  • Experienced in the college admissions process and knowledge of college types and how to plan a student's high school career towards a specific college goal
  • Able to manage multiple parent and student relationships simultaneously
  • Adept at managing expectations and counseling families through high pressure situations
  • Organized, detail-oriented, confident and kind
  • Strong grasp of English and writing skills including email etiquette
  • Prior consulting, counseling (school or psychological) or coaching experience a plus
  • Prefer prior experience helping students apply to top-tier private colleges and public colleges and universities.

Requirements:

  • undergraduate and graduate degree from a leading college or university and where possible admissions team experience with a top college or university
  • An outgoing, empathetic personality along with strong relationship-building skills
  • A strong work ethic with a desire to constantly exceed expectations
  • Proven, exceptional writing skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong project management skills
  • Comfort working in an entrepreneurial, small company environment

Responsibilities

  • Monthly/ bimonthly meetings with students and parents to review academic and extracurricular plans
  • Manage academic, standardized test, and extracurricular plans for approximately 20-50 students
  • Coach students through independent projects (non-profit, small business, community workshop, etc)
  • Maintain open and regular line of communication with students and parents
  • Perform research on extracurricular activities (volunteering, summer programs, special projects)
  • Able to drive a process of continuous improvement/change for students
