Position Summary
The Occupational Health Assistant supports the Elanco Occupational Health Clinic through scheduling of appointments, compliance tracking, and injury/illness management. This position is responsible for the front desk activities, appointment scheduling, medical record processing, facilitating communication, and triaging employee health issues from the first encounter.
Responsibilities
In this role, the employee will be responsible for the following duties:
Clinton, IN:
- Monitor compliance programs surrounding workplace medical screenings, ensuring Elanco employees are scheduled, tested, and fit for duty.
- Maintain medical testing equipment and perform daily calibration of screening tools to maintain functionality/accuracy.
- Perform injury/illness triage, take vital signs, prepare forms, and room employees for appointments with RN or NP.
- Confirm daily medical records are accurately placed within the EMR.
- Facilitate communication between employees with questions/medical concerns and the OHS team member as appropriate.
- Perform medical surveillance testing on qualified employees. Includes hearing exams, respiratory testing, lab work, etc.
- Ensure daily organization and cleanliness of the clinic common spaces and work areas.
- Monitor supply, expiration dates, order and stock supplies/equipment as needed.
- Maintain professional presentation and communication with internal and external occupational health/Elanco stakeholders.
- Function within a multidisciplinary team that ensures Elanco employees are fit for duty and receive appropriate care under workers’ compensation.
- Facilitate special projects in support of employee wellness, i.e., blood drives, wellness challenges, etc.
- All other duties as assigned and appropriate to skills and certification/license.
U.S.:
- Support compliance programs remotely through tracking of health surveillance panels at U.S. sites.
- Assist U.S. sites with organization and support of wellness and preventative health programs.
Education minimum requirement
- CMA, RMA, CCMA, CMAA, NCMA, EMT or LPN, or equivalent certification/license through the State of Indiana, or actively enrolled in a qualifying certification/licensure program to be completed as contingency of offer.
- High School Diploma or GED
Basic minimum requirements:
- A minimum of 1-year clinical experience within a healthcare environment.
- Administrative proficiency within Microsoft Excel, Teams, Word and Outlook.
Additional Skills & Preferences:
- Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist (or ability to achieve within 6 months at company expense).
- NIOSH Spirometry certification (or ability to achieve within 6 months at company expense).
- Excellent communication and organization skills. The ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with managing electronic medical records and utilizing EHR systems.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate professionally with other healthcare and manufacturing team members.
- Workers’ compensation experience.
- Flexibility to adjust hours as needed in support of clinic operations and accessibility. Clinic hours are 7:00 am – 6:00 pm.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
Additional Information:
- Travel may be required for this position to other Elanco facilities.
- This full-time position is based at the Clinton, IN site.
- On-call may be required for after hours.
- Fixed Full-Time Employee – work is required to be on-site to complete the job.
- Additional Work Locations: Position is primarily based within the Occupational Health Clinic at the Clinton, IN location. Infrequent travel may be required to other Elanco facilities within Indiana, such as Greenfield, Terre Haute, and Indianapolis.
- Position works M-F, 8-hour shifts with a 30-minute lunch break.
- Employee may be required to enter manufacturing areas on occasion where PPE is utilized.
- Frequently lift/carry up to 20 lbs.
- Infrequently lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
