This position supports the nutritional well-being of students as part of the education process. This position has responsibility to oversee staff and to prepare/distribute food items following District procedures and standards. The position fills in for positions at all levels and at all district locations. Itinerant position may be used to supplement short- and long-term absences, and vacancies.
- SPS NUTRITION SERVICES EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- 5 hours per day minimum, may be required to work up to 8 hours per day

- SCHOOL YEAR POSITION: (190 DAYS/10 MONTHS)
- ANTICIPATED START DATE: ASAP

- Monitors the preparation of attractive, high quality, nutritious, cost-effective meals following standardized procedures, recipes, production sheets, portioning standards, and appropriate equipment, in accordance with established work schedules.
- Oversees and participates in daily food preparation activities; collaborates with kitchen team to accomplish daily production needs.
- Provide oversight and training Kitchen Staff, student workers, and substitutes.
- Assists with district wide program training for the purposes of implementing best practices and program quality assurance.
- Maintains and troubleshoots kitchen equipment; submit work orders as appropriate.
- Follows Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) food safety and sanitation methods, and ensure standards are met.
- May assist with the opening and closing of the kitchen at the start and end of the academic school year.
- Regularly submit orders for food and other supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels for production needs.
- Promotes Nutrition Services to increase meal participation.
- Perform responsibilities of the Kitchen Manager, Elementary Assistant Manager, Assistant Manager or Prep worker.
- Operate all types of commercial kitchen equipment
- Fulfill other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Obtain and maintain a valid Food Handlers within two weeks of employment
- First Aid/CPR certificate within one month of hire.
- Ability to read, interpret, and adjust (if needed) applicable menus and recipes for production
- Read, interpret, follow, and train others on related regulations, procedures, policies and guidelines adopted by the Nutrition Services Program, District, State, Federal, and USDA meal program requirements.
- Ability to use a variety of basic software programs such as Microsoft- Outlook, Word, Excel, Office 365, and Teams
- Demonstrated accuracy in record keeping
- Developing and maintaining positive and professional working relationship with diverse groups of students, staff, volunteers, and community. Actively engages as part of the school community
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with a variety of employees and customers, including students and parents; actively engages as a part of the school site community.
- Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Personal and reliable transportation is required to work at different district locations daily.
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent
Desirable Qualifications
- Preferred, one (1) year of work experience in commercial or institutional quantity food preparation that included supervision, training and communicating effectively with staff.
- Satisfactory completion of approved safety/sanitation class within past 5 years.
- Level 3 certification with School Nutrition Association preferred.
Working Conditions:
Employee work is typically indoors in a loud, distracting, and busy kitchen/cafeteria environment. Work is typically during early morning to early afternoon hours and is required to work with others in a team setting. Regularly works with and around potentials hazardous cooking equipment, such as hot stoves, ovens, steamers, and cutting devices. Minimum exposure to hot, cold, and freezing temperatures is expected as the employee works near ovens, and steamers and may need to retrieve items from coolers or freezers. Expected to travel to and from multiple district wide locations on a routine basis. If needed, may be required to work at multiple district locations in a day if needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift thirty (30) pounds without assistance
- Ability to Bend, Stoop, Stand and Walk for extended periods of time
- Minimum exposure to hot, cold, and freezing temperatures
- Use of hands to cut, serve, feel objects, operate tools and controls
- Occasional lifting and reaching overhead
- Occasional Climbing on a stool or ladder
- Ability to twist, reach, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch for short repetitive periods of time
- Repetitive tasks may include serving, twisting, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling
