JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for practicum coordination for OU BSN and MSN students, and clinical coordination for the BSN prelicensure program, as well as administrative support to the Director of Nursing. In addition to regularly interfacing with the Director of Nursing, there is communication with internal and external stakeholders such as clinical affiliate staff, and other community partners, and OU nursing staff, faculty, and students. Duties include organizing, coordinating, and arranging student clinical experiences prior to each term, ensuring faculty and student clinical placement requirements are met in a timely way, and maintaining active database of clinical affiliate agreements. The Nursing Clinical and Practicum Coordinator acts as a liaison between Ottawa University Nursing and all clinical placement agencies. This position provides oversight of the Skills and Simulation (SIM) labs, and instruction to students in the labs as assigned. This position may be assigned to assist with evaluating clinical faculty. This position requires excellent organizational, communication, and multi-tasking skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (provide list of items which are essential to effective outcomes in this role):
- In collaboration with the Director of Nursing and faculty, work effectively with clinical agencies to manage and evaluate clinical placements and/or experiences that meet the educational requirements for students in the Nursing Program, to include clinical clearance processes.
- Manage mandatory clinical standards and requirements for clinical experiences including but not limited to HIPAA, OSHA, JACHO, and Background Checks.
- Coordinate faculty and student schedules as directed.
- Manage affiliation agreements for clinical practice experiences (Practicums).
- Manage preceptor paperwork for clinical practice experiences (Practicums).
- Maintain databases and records to assure current and accurate data for accrediting agencies and reports.
- In collaboration with Director of Nursing, BSN Lead Faculty, (Program Director), nursing faculty, and support staff, prepare and coordinate student orientation, special events and pinning ceremony.
- Process internal unit reports and those required by the university. Evaluate and assure validity of information that is gathered and reported.
- Maintain program academic files, within policy expectations and procedure standards, documentation of procedures, standardization of forms, and maintenance of required reports and information in cooperation with appropriate internal and external constituencies of the Nursing Program and University.
- Assure the integrity of information and bring any potential irregularity to the attention of the Director of Nursing.
- Attain a level of computer proficiency to enable effective use of the systems and storage resources.
- Assist in BSN and MSN outreach communication.
- Provide oversight of the Skills and Simulation (SIM) labs as needed.
- Provide instruction to the students in the Skills and Simulation (SIM) labs as needed.
- Provide instruction in other areas as needed.
- Evaluate clinical faculty as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION: (education based on essential job duties and requirements consistent with business necessity):
MSN Degree required. Licensure: current license as Registered Nurse in Kansas and Missouri.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: (experience based on requirements in role and are consistent with business necessity)
3 - 5 years of related work experience.

- Nursing education experience preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS (Physical attributes required to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation - examples: sitting, lifting #, bending, driving, environmental factors or elements, noise level, stairs in a building, or other factors that will affect working conditions).
