Highlights of the program:

  • Our Nurse Aide training program is a state approved program that offers training to candidates who desire to become eligible for certification as a certified nurse aide.
  • Westmoreland covers the cost of the entire program!
  • Clinical and classroom hours totaling 80 hours will be required in the 4-week program.
  • The program is Monday-Friday 8a-4:30p for weeks 1-3. Week 4 of the program is clinical week 6:45a-3:30p.
  • Join our team immediately as a hospitality aide in the class starting at $13 an hour. Once the class and state exam are passed, rate automatically goes up to $15 plus shift differentials.

Qualifications of the Nurse Aide Training Program:

  • All applicants will interview for possible admission into the program.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check, abuse registry check, and drug screen prior to employment.
  • 100% Attendance is required during the 4 week program
  • Employees are required to stay employed for a full year.

Your Role in the Organization

The primary purpose of your job position as a staff member is to acquire the knowledge, skills, and certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant by participation in the facility’s planned educational program consisting of classroom instructions, clinical practice, and on-the-job, supervised training, and to perform certain services for which you have been trained and found to be competent during the training period.

Essential Elements of the Role

  • Perform only those non-direct care procedures that you have been trained to do.
  • Answer resident calls promptly.
  • Participate in and receive the nursing report as instructed.
  • Ensure that the resident’s room is ready for receiving the resident i.e., bed made, name tags up, admission kit available, etc..
  • Greet residents and escort them to their room.
  • Inventory and mark the resident’s personal possessions as instructed.
  • Assist residents with packing their personal possessions when they are being transferred to a new room, or when being discharged.
  • Assist with loading/unloading residents’ to/from vehicles as necessary.
  • Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Ensure that residents who are unable to call for help are checked frequently.
  • Check residents routinely to ensure that their personal care needs are being met.
  • Watch for and report any change in room temperature, ventilation, lighting, etc.
  • Pass meal trays and assist residents with identifying food arrangements i.e., informing resident with sight problem of foods that are on his/her tray, where it is located, if it is hot/cold, etc.
  • Keep residents’ water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water on each shift, and within easy reach of the resident.
  • Serve between meal and bedtime snacks as instructed.
  • Perform after meal care i.e., remove trays, clean resident’s hands, face, clothing, etc..

Specific Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
  • Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

  • Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
