Job Summary/Description:

KAIT 8 is looking for a talented News Assignment Editor with terrific news judgment, knowledge of the area and the ability to effectively multi-task in a fast-paced environment. The The ideal candidate will have a passion for information and excellent people skills. The assignment editor is responsible for coordinating day of news coverage, planning story coverage for future days and assisting in arranging coverage for special projects.

Join a great team in an exciting and gratifying position as our News Assignment Editor. Imagine being the newsroom air traffic controller, but instead of directing air traffic, you'll be one of the coordinators gathering and assimilating valuable information for news stories. The News Assignment Editor assists with the daily flow of news, providing information for the team to impart appropriate on-air, online and digital coverage. The ideal candidate will also generate story ideas, investigate news tips for credibility and assist in dispatching crews to stories and breaking news scenes.

Duties/Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

• Answering phones, receiving news tips, gathering information and dispensing that information to the newsroom.
• Monitoring news sources.
• Researching stories using various credible methods.
• Developing and interacting with sources to assist in generating news coverage.
• Participating in projects and special assignments as required.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or related field or equivalent experience preferred.
• Strong editorial judgment required.
• Working knowledge of news software preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills are a must.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including holidays.
