Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide technical and department leadership for wired and wireless data network and network security service for the campus. This position oversees architecture, design, maintenance, and operation of data network infrastructure and network security systems including core data backbone, mobile services, firewalls, virtual private network (VPN) services, network authentication and on-boarding, and project management. This position provides leadership for the Network Engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the leadership and daily oversight of the Network Engine
  • Responsible for wired and wireless service availability and reliability. Ensure network and network security architecture services meet campus needs.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage network and network security projects. Participate in campus and CSU committees. Oversee contractors and equipment purchases, perform change management, coordinate and communicate.
  • Recommend, develop, and implement new campus network and security technologies.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Strong technical, communications, and leaderships skills. Ability to manage large campus-wide projects under deadline situations. Knowledge of and ability to design and specify both inter-building and intra-building communications infrastructure to support voice, high-speed data, and video. Ability to evaluate, implement, configure, and maintain network/Internet system equipment and software. In-depth understanding of desktop, server and network security Organizational leadership skills required to manage, direct, and coordinate technology services and support. Communicates clearly and effectively, with technical and non-technical individuals within a culturally diverse campus environment. Maintains IT professional standards of anonymity for data that resides on campus servers and computer systems. Maintains confidentiality of all information.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Telecommunications, or a related technical field and five years of related experience required. Minimum of 2 years’ experience with Alcatel-Lucent preferred. Minimum of 4 years’ experience with Aruba Wireless Network Management preferred. Minimum of 4 years’ experience with Palo Alto Networks preferred.

Physical Summary

Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,686 - $12,947 per month.
