Job Description

Position: Multilingual Learner Education Coordinator (.5) & Teacher (.5)

Reports to: Asst. Superintendent of Schools & Building Principal

Qualifications:
1.Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
2.MA DESE English as a Second Language (ESL), K-6, or ESL, 5-12, licensure complete or in progress required; both licenses are preferred.
3.3-5 years experience as an English Learner (EL) teacher.
4.Knowledge of and ability to model research-based best practices in Multilingual Learner (ML) pedagogy, including English language development and sheltered English immersion.
5.Ability to organize, analyze, present, and recommend actions in response to data.
6.Demonstrated strength in facilitating teamwork.
7.Self-motivated, responsible, and able to work independently.
8.Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
9.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Duties & Performance Responsibilities:
1.Curriculum: In cooperation with building principals, select and support implementation of English Language Education (ELE) curriculum materials districtwide.
2.Instruction/Professional Development:
a.Identify professional development needs regarding best practices in instruction for ELs and manage, plan, and/or deliver workshops to meet those needs.
b.Model and coach research-based best practices in Multilingual Learner (ML) pedagogy, including English language development and sheltered English immersion.
3.Assessment:
a.Coordinate, schedule, and administer WIDA Screener and WIDA ACCESS for ELs.
b.Ensure ELE staff are certified biannually to conduct WIDA Screenings and ACCESS Testing.
c.Review annual benchmark data as required by DESE to identify ELs who are not meeting annual benchmarks and collaborate to create English Learner Success Plans (ELSP) to assist students in acquiring English and content knowledge simultaneously.
d.Ensure ELE team members assess students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
e.Ensure accommodations are provided for ELs on district and school-wide assessments
f.Monitor FELs as required by state law and implement intervention for those not making adequate progress
g.Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings, IEP meetings, and any other meetings pertaining to English Learners’ achievement and growth.
4.Program Management & Compliance:
a.Meet regularly with department staff.
b.Prepare, maintain, and support department members in maintaining accurate data of enrolled English Learners, Former English Learners (FELs), and families requiring interpretation and/or translation.
c.Ensure the district remains in compliance with the DESE, federal, and state regulations, advisories, and guidance regarding English Learners.
d.Manage, complete, submit, and respond to ELE Program Quality Assurance and Tiered Focused Monitoring in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
e.Collaborate with neighboring districts regularly through professional organization meetings (OELAA, MATSOL, MELLC, South Shore ELE Leadership, etc.).
f.Along with the district's EL liaison, schedule translation and interpretation services as needed for district curriculum nights, parent teacher conferences, IEP and ELSP meetings, parent meetings with guidance and administration, report cards and progress reports, bus information, etc.
g.Support operations and two-way communication with the English Learner Parent Advisory Committee (ELPAC).
h.Assist HS staff in coordinating the Massachusetts Seal of Biliteracy.
5.Teaching & Learning: Fulfill a .5 FTE teacher’s duties at one or more schools in the district, as determined by licensure and student needs.
Terms of Employment: As specified in the REA Teachers’ Contract.

Evaluation: By principal & assistant superintendent, in accordance with the REA Teachers’ Contract.
