The Navy’s SEA 21 Professional Support Services Ship Maintenance and Modernization contract integrates maintenance strategies, modernization plans, sustainment strategies, training needs; and technical, logistics, and programmatic efforts to best manage the lifecycle of all non-nuclear surface ships from fleet introduction through transfer to disposal.
The Military Analyst supports SEA 21 Sustainment War Room wthin our NAVSEA, SEA 21 in an exciting, fast-paced environment focused on managing the maintenance, modernization, and sustainment of the U.S. Navy’s non-nuclear surface warfighting ships at facilities across the globe. You will be at the information and decision-making center of one of the Navy’s largest organizations that is responsible for approximately $46 billion annually. You will interface daily with senior military and civilian leaders (i.e., Flag Officers, SESs, and senior GSs) and observe how decisions are made, the elusive information used to make them, and how unexpected critical issues are managed. You will assist in identifying data-driven solutions for warfighting maintenance, modernization, and sustainment challenges; you will educate Congressional staff, Senate staff, and the Navy’s most senior leaders on the maintenance, modernization, and sustainment enterprise.
This position is seated in the Washington Navy Yard and there are very few travel expectations.
In this role, you will:
- Assist SEA 21 leadership with identifying, coordinating, integrating, and presenting core information necessary for planning and executing maintenance, modernization, and sustainment functions for non-nuclear surface ships at Navy bases around the world.
- Assist in analyzing maintenance, modernization, and sustainment activities for non-nuclear surface ships along with industrial base performance and growth.
- Assist in analyzing historical trends and data from non-nuclear surface ship maintenance cycles toward developing and executing changes that reduce Days of Maintenance Delay (DoMD) and deliver ships from maintenance and modernization cycles on time with required work complete.
- Monitor the material status of pre-deployers, ships currently on deployment, and Forward Deployed Naval Forces to track and report on those material issues that require Flag Officer attention to remove barriers and expedite repairs.
- Provide tours of the SEA 21 Maintenance Operations Center and Sustainment War Room for members of the U.S. Congress, Congressional Professional Staff, high-level Executives from Industry, Assistant Secretaries of the Navy, the Chief of Naval Operations, the Vice-Chief of Naval Operations, and various other Flag Officers and Senior Executives within the Department of Defense.
- Assist with providing executive level long range programmatic planning products that convey complex issues though transition plans and long-range projections.
- Assist with presentations, white papers, dashboards, and research; participate in meetings, conventions, and forums to share findings.
- Assist in organizing and supporting program meetings, reviews, information exchange meetings, workshops, and conferences at contractor site.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- An Active DoD issued Secret clearance.
- No sponsorship available.
- An associate degree with 4 years related experience (Bachelor’s Degree preferred).
- Expertise with core Microsoft Office applications (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Teams, Outlook).
- Professional disposition in speaking in front of, and interacting with, senior leaders.
- A secret security clearance is required.
- Flexible for up to 10% travel.
Additional desired experience and skills:
- Understanding of data management and analysis as well as data analysis software tools.
- Familiarity with SharePoint and Integrated Data Environments (IDEs).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- High degree of attention to detail and accuracy in completing assignments, including proof reading, grammar, and analytical skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate and work with others at all levels.
- Ability to work with sensitive and classified information.
- Self-starter, goal-oriented individual who provides timely feedback on progress made on assignments.
