Job Description

The mission of the department is to assist consumers in their recovery and keep them stable in the community and aid in the transition to a less supervised level of housing supervision. Working with severe and persistent mentally ill population in assisting individual service coordination, training in daily living skills, residential counseling, support services, crisis intervention services, education and facilitation of proper medication self- administration techniques, healthcare monitoring and oversight of services.

Additional Requirements

To qualify you must have a Bachelor's Degree in helping profession with one year of post degree relevant experience preferred. Most have valid NJ Driver's License required with no restrictions,. Required CPR/First/AED preferred -will be provided if certificate is not active, computer skills, crisis intervention training, excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Bilingual skills appreciated. The Department of Psychiatry Residential Services is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of: Mental Health Worker. The Mental Health Worker will work with adult consumers residing in a 15 bed community based residence who are diagnosed with a Severe and Persistent Mental Illness. The candidate will support consumers in their wellness and recovery towards independent living. Support provided includes case management, medication supervision, skills building, community integration, identifying a crisis, and applying appropriate interventions - in-depth training provided on site. Mental Health Workers will support other team members in providing a clean and therapeutic environment. Candidates will need to be patient and possess strong motivational skills to support the consumers in their individualized goals. Able to identify or label patient's emotions. Can identify emotional and physical signs of abuse and neglect. Establish a reasonable system of limits and rules that is clearly understood and consistently maintained. Performs all other duties as assigned. Plans and implements activities to promote emotional and cognitive growth. Provides close supervision to ensure patient's safety at all times. Reports suspected abuse as determined by state and federal laws. Select appropriate themes/activities based on assessment data and the developmental/emotional and behavioral level of the patient. Speaks distinctly with appropriate volume and inflection. Takes appropriate action to document and report suspected abuse. Days: Sunday-Thursday Hours: Sunday:7A-3P Monday-Thursday: 1P-9P.
