Substance Abuse/Mental Health Billing Specialist, Temporary Position

The GHR center for addiction recovery and treatment is a rapidly growing outpatient treatment center with strong liaisons to other community providers (hospitals, CSB’s,
courts, local medical and mental health practices). We serve the needs of adults with various addictions and co-occurring mental health and medical disorders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for all coding, compliance and billing processes information, and education

Develop, implement and review policies and procedures regarding coding, billing and payment denials to ensure effective and efficient collections

Prepare and submit patient claims to appropriate third party payers.

Reviews claims to ensure that payer specific billing requirements are met.

Ensure claim forms are completely and accurately filled out. Work closely with office manager and front desk to update and maintain patient billing data, demographic information and making sure all documents are current in order to facilitate billing and reimbursement.

Obtain all pre-authorizations as required by each insurance company.

Speak with clinical staff for clarification on procedures, diagnosis codes and any missing information in order to ensure all claims are paid.

Complete data entry of all charges into Practice Management System.

Verify that the initial claim is accepted by third party payers.

Review all claim denials. Collect any information necessary for re-submission of claims.

Work all denials to ensure 100% of billed services are reimbursed at the correct rate.

Identify and provide reports regarding payer trends, denial patterns, and delays of payment to owners and office manager.

Provide weekly report to owners regarding insurance reimbursement and patient co-payments

Develop relationship with appropriate persons at each insurance company to ensure all claims are paid.

Adhere to confidentiality, state, federal, and HIPAA laws and guidelines with regard to patient records and collections.

Demonstrate Adaptability. Handle day to day work challenges confidently and successfully. Be willing and able to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, and rapid change.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree or equivalent

Five years experience in billing, coding and working of claims specific to Substance Abuse and Mental Health

Knowledge of CPT and ICD 10 codes

Knowledge of substance abuse ARTS program and billing codes and requirements specific to the ARTS program

Proficiency with computer systems, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) required.

Job Type: Temporary

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour

  • 8 hour shift
