Job Summary

The Coding Specialist is responsible for verifying and/or entering charge and diagnosis code information for medical/behavioral health claims and structuring patient claims data for the medical center and/or nursing home billing.

Coding Specialist Essential Job Duties

A. Receive and review patient charges and diagnosis codes for accuracy.

B. Reviews and/or assigns codes to diagnoses and procedures, using ICD, CPT, and HCPCS codes.

C. Ensures all services provided are captured and included on claims as appropriate.

D. Accurately and timely, processes all invoices.

E. Follow up with Provider or clinical staff on any documentation that is insufficient or unclear.

F. Ensure codes are accurate and sequenced correctly in accordance with government and insurance regulations.

G. Verifies and completes charge information in database.

H. Maintains required billing records, reports, files, etc.

I. Complete any Provider coding audits as assigned.

J. Complete any reports as assigned.

K. Maintain efficiency in coding practices and procedures.

L. Attend all required meetings and trainings.

M. Other duties as assigned.

Salary:

Dependent upon experience

Education and Experience

A. Education: High School graduate or GED.

B. Experience: One year of coding experience in a healthcare setting preferred. Associate’s Degree in Medical Coding, or successful completion of a medical coding certification program preferred.

C. Other: Valid N.C. Driver’s License, and dependable transportation.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $28.00 per hour
