Medical Assistants are essential to delivering whole person care to our patients. Our MAs, in partnership with clinic staff and operations, created a structured approach to a more effective, efficient work day with appropriate workloads and a clearer path for professional development. In addition, we've also established one of the first-ever MA Apprenticeship programs with an accredited local college to educate and prepare future MAs for success.
This position assumes a supportive role and has responsibility and accountability for facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with both the healthcare team, and the patient/family to identify and meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the patient. You will promote the optimal health, well-being and safety of the patient in accordance with patient care standards, guidelines and the delegation of medical services as defined by State Medical Practice Act.

Penrose-St. Francis Health Services is a full-service, 522-bed acute care provider in Colorado Springs comprised of Penrose Hospital and St. Francis Medical Center. Penrose Hospital serves as the anchor hospital of Penrose-St. Francis Health Services with 364-licensed beds and the ability to provide tertiary (high tech) medical-surgical services with an emphasis on elective and outpatient care. Established in 1890, Penrose Hospital has grown to become a major health treatment and referral center, specializing in cancer care, cardiac care, emergency trauma care and physical rehabilitation. St. Francis Medical Center opened in 2008 to keep pace with the growing needs of the Colorado Springs’ community on the north side of the city. St. Francis Medical Center features 172-beds and offers a modern Birth Center, Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Care Unit, Emergency Department, Level III Trauma Center, Imaging Services, Surgical Services and Critical Care Unit. It also serves as southern Colorado’s home base for the Flight For Life® Colorado air medical helicopter service. In addition to bringing your whole self to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following:
- High School diploma required
- Medical Assisting Trade/Technical School, Preferred
- Medical Assistant certification or registration from approved organization, required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers required
- Successful completion of all Medical Assistant Core Skills, as well as Additional competencies which are specialty specific, as defined within the Scope of Practice for CHPG Medical Assistants.
- Successful completion of assigned/required courses in online learning platform
- Maintain good standing as an Associate
- For Internal Candidates:
- When the CHPG MA 1 Associate meets all the above minimum requirements, he/she can ask the Practice Manager to submit a change of status form for promotion from an MA 1 to an MA 2.
Physical Requirements - Medium Work - (Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs frequently, and/or up to 10lbs constantly)
You may perform a variety of clinical tasks as directed by an authorized health care provider in accordance with the Centura Health Physician Group Scope of Practice. You may also assist with front office duties and scheduling of tests and/or patient appointments. MAs are responsible for accurate chart documentation and medical record maintenance. You will also attend / conduct in-service presentations and seminars to facilitate personal and professional growth and demonstrates personal accountability for relationship-based care, organizational mission, and core values.
