Eden Reforestation Projects (Eden) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization facilitating landscape restoration and community development through nature-based solutions. Eden works in developing regions of the world to protect and restore forests and ecosystems by working with local communities to address and mitigate the drivers of landscape degradation. We have active programming in East Africa, Latin America, and Asia.
Position Summary:
The Marketing Specialist will be responsible for coordinating various tasks and assisting in the execution of the organization’s marketing and communications strategy. This position will help develop internal and external communications such as campaigns, newsletters, website content, social media content, and organizational assets.
If you are successful in this role, you will become a point person for the organization’s integrated marketing efforts. You must take the initiative in the tasks assigned and become proactive as a Marketing Specialist.
Essential Responsibilities:- Write, edit, and release campaigns, newsletters, blogs, and other external communications on behalf of the organization
- Work cross-functionally with internal departments to align campaign, website, social media, and newsletter content
- Write, revise, and maintain website content, infoline templates, Wikipedia page, annual reports, and partner materials to ensure consistency and accuracy of the information
- Assist with developing and maintaining support material: project descriptions, images, testimonials, reference letters, brochures, advertisements, etc.
- Audit all materials (e.g., website pages, partner decks, pdfs, reports, videos, etc.) to ensure information is accurate, precise, and adhere to Eden’s brand guide, voice, and tone on a monthly, quarterly, annually, and as needed basis
- Design, write, and publish social media posts
- Manage social media comments and messages across all platforms daily
- Upload and manage YouTube videos, captions, and comments
- Help plan, implement, and release internal key messages and communications on behalf of the executive team
- Deliver innovative ways to communicate the organization’s mission to the target specific audiences
- Design, write, and schedule external communications for campaigns and announcements through Mailchimp per target audience
- Create quarterly standard and premium toolkits for partners with content such as employee stories, social media posts, b-roll footage, etc.
- Review, record, and analyze content performance and analytics monthly
- Travel internationally as part of marketing’s creative resource-gathering trips to collect high-quality photo and video content at least three times per year
- Provide feedback and edit content from other departments to ensure it aligns with communication standards and brand guidelines.
- Develop standard operating procedures for new tasks and processes
- Watermark photos and videos as requested (this includes updating media asset libraries and providing partner updates when necessary)
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Competencies:
- Knowledge of traditional and digital marketing, content marketing, social media marketing, and related tools
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both in writing and verbally as appropriate for the needs of the audience
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and have a positive, helpful attitude
- Excellent organizational and time management skills. Must be able to prioritize workload and complete tasks to meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Use logic and reasoning to identify appropriate conclusions, proactively mitigate potential issues, and create order out of ambiguity
- Must be able to communicate cross-culturally and understand cultural sensitivities
- Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple projects with strong attention to detail and superb accuracy
- Ability to gather large amounts of data and convert it into meaningful analysis
- Ability to simplify complex information into a user-friendly format
- Ability to work with confidential materials
- Ability to function in a highly collaborative, friendly, and informal environment
- Ability to take the initiative and a willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges
- Willingness to learn about media production, communication, design software, and dissemination techniques and methods, such as alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Arts/Science in marketing, advertising, communications, or a related field
- A minimum of three years of marketing experience required
- Sustainability communications or marketing preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps, Canva, all social media platforms, MailChimp and Adobe design suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Lightroom) required
- Job requires comfort in a changing environment and evolving priorities
- Job requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable, fulfilling obligations and meeting deadlines
- Experience in Salesforce is a plus, but not required
- Supports the mission, vision, and values of Eden
Work Environment:
- Pleasant workspace setting, comfortable temperature
- Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information. Overall mobility is essential
- Requires computer usage and sitting for extended periods of time
- International travel required to difficult operating environments, including areas that are considered off-grid, sometimes for extended periods of time
- Extended or irregular work hours will be required as needed, particularly during resource-gathering trips and campaign launches
