Role Overview : – We are looking for an experienced attorney to assume the role as Managing Counsel to the Asset Servicing and Digital line of business. The candidate will be a part of a team that provides legal counsel to BNY Mellon’s Asset Servicing and Digital (“ASD”) business. The attorney who fills this role will be expected to contribute as part of a larger team and to be a trusted internal resource capable of using knowledge of BNY Mellon’s businesses, products, services and/or strategies to articulate and advance legal positions. We expect the candidate to primarily support ASD’s Fund Services group, which provides fund accounting, administration, transfer agency, middle office, custody and other services to a wide variety of registered and unregistered funds, ETFs, UITs and other investment vehicles. Exposure and interest in the areas of digital assets (e.g. cryptocurrencies and tokenized assets), blockchain technology, data and analytics, asset management and/or financial institutions practice is preferred but not required. This position will require the individual to draft and negotiate a variety of services contracts and other related agreements. A successful applicant will also work closely with business colleagues in evaluating and supporting the implementation of new technologies and business strategies.

Expectations:
Ability to handle a portfolio of complex legal issues including serving as an advisor to internal and external stakeholders, including outside counsel, relevant to issues affecting the assigned entities.
Collaborative, seeking guidance and input from colleagues throughout the organization to ensure solutions align to global legal strategies.
Partner with strategic partners who also serve in an advisory or oversight capacity, such as Risk, Audit, Compliance, etc.
Reviews summaries of legal matters and due diligence activities prepared by less experienced professionals and uses expert knowledge and sound judgment to confirm their accuracy, potential impact and necessity for action.
Initiates contact, retains, and manages outside counsel who provide legal services to the entity.
Communicates expectations for deliverables and service levels, ensures retained counsel is kept informed of entity priorities and strategies.
Reviews outside counsel work for appropriateness, quality and alignment to expectations.
