This position's primary responsibility is to positively impact bottom line profit by managing costs for the terminal. Primary focus should be placed on the analysis of routing decisions, lane mix and mode selection, as well as the analysis of cost KPIs in the asset group to provide the optimal balance in effective utilization of the asset fleet while providing exceptional service to the customer.

Driver qualification process and recordkeeping

New employee hire and orientation processes

Outside carrier contracts

Employment checks and verifications

Accident investigation and reporting

Setting up and maintaining claim files

Data analysis for loss run reporting

Safety, OSHA, and DOT compliance

Essential Functions

Operations:

Assist and learn from the Terminal Manager in supervising terminal operations to ensure proper routing decisions for GLI assets, with the goal of providing the required service at the lowest cost. Effectively engage office and driver personnel for continual performance feedback. Analyze daily shipping patterns and communicate regularly with GM/SM/PM about costs. Ensure sufficient contract haul capacity and rate structures are established and approved. Monitor and manage supply and demand fluctuations (available loads / available capacity). Communicate regularly with appropriate personnel about imbalances and support needs from Brokerage and Sales. Ensure all orders are being entered with accurate appt times, equipment is assigned prior to the beginning of the movement and loads are processed in a timely manner to ensure accurate billing. Ensure attached list of duties are assigned and managed successfully

Safety:

Work with corporate Safety to support achieving goals & objectives related to regulatory compliance, safety awareness and enforcement of GLI's fleet safety program. Supports terminal driver managers when dealing with situations requiring driver counseling or discipline as related to violations of company safety policy or State & Federal regulation. Assist in holding of quarterly driver safety meetings & implementing training initiatives. May be required to respond to accident scenes or assist in accident investigation to mitigate exposures.

Maintenance/Equipment:

Track MPG and Idle results by driver. Create reports with results monthly and provide ongoing education and training for fuel conversation tips at guidance of Maintenance Director. Execute published shop audit process to ensure all DVIR's with equipment concerns are given to maintenance department to be addressed, all DOT roadside inspections are reviewed with maintenance and that any inspection with noted equipment violations are repaired before equipment is placed back in service. Complete a monthly vehicle appearance audit looking at cleanliness inside and out, along with body damage. Complete a quarterly equipment audit of all trailers. Conduct an annual Pre / Post Trip Certification at the guidance of the Maintenance Director. Assist in getting equipment into the shop for PMs and/or repairs. Coordinate the movements of drivers and equipment into outside repair ships for warranty related repairs or breakdowns. Weekly review of all on-road tire failures with the driver and maintenance personnel to determine root cause.

Financial Responsibility

Responsible for participating in establishing GSW outbound rates, negotiating rates with outside carriers and ensuring effective cost controls are utilized to achieve lowest freight rates possible

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has supervisory responsibilities over GLI terminal personnel.

Supervision/Training

This position will be required to perform a customized training schedule.

Decision Making

This position will be required to make frequent and ongoing decisions regarding drivers, equipment, customer service, carrier selection, and rates.

Skill/Knowledge Requirements

Minimum education/experience necessary to perform the job:

Skills and knowledge normally gained in a program equivalent to a 4 year degree or

2-3 years of transportation experience

Computer Skills:

Basic computer skills are required, and the ability to type 35 wpm.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts including adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret applicable regulations and procedures. Ability to write reports and business correspondences. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.
