Position Summary:
This position reports to Director of Nursing, Surgical Services. Responsible for coordination of patient care in the perioperative environment. Manages staff members in the Outpatient Surgery (OPS), GI Lab, PACU and Pre-Admit Testing with staff, physicians and Surgical Services Director on nursing issues and interpretation of hospital and unit policies and procedures to ensure patient needs are met. Actively participates in continuous quality improvement activities. Formulates budget for the departments listed above.
Position Accountabilities:
Directs actions toward supervision of nursing care given to pediatric (e.g., includes parents/care giver in procedures/interventions when appropriate, uses appropriately sized equipment), adolescent, adult and geriatric (e.g., allows for frequent breaks to avoid fatigue, addresses by Mr/Mrs and last name) patients within the OPS, GI Lab, PACU and Pre-Admit Testing according to nursing principles and standards.
Provides for safe transportation of all patients to and from the OPS, GI Lab, PACU and Pre-Admit Testing.
Supervises clinical aspects of the OPS, GI Lab, PACU and Pre-Admit Testing departments.
Supervises care of OPS, GI Lab, PACU and Pre-Admit Testing and equipment to ensure cleanliness, sterility and operational ability of all items.
Directs all safety measures to prevent accidents, harm or injury to patients, staff or equipment, controls traffic to avoid infection.
Assist Director in completing payroll on time.
Verifies that proper temperature, ventilation and lighting are maintained to provide a work environment that supports infection prevention and comfort.
Assists physicians in treatments and procedures through provision of qualified staff; formulates schedule, which provides that qualified staff is available for all procedures.
Assures presence of a registered nurse for all OPS, GI Lab, PACU and Pre-Admit Testing procedures.
Assigns personnel; delegates specific duties and tasks.
Provides and controls supplies and equipment needed for successful operation of the OPS, GI Lab, PACU and Pre-Admit Testing. Directs and delegates control of inventories to ensure proper amounts are available.
Supervises care and cleanliness of equipment and supplies to ensure good working condition.
Evaluates need for new or different items in regard to present and new trends or needs of the OPS, GI Lab, PACU and Pre-Admit Testing.
Continuously supervises staff to ensure quality of nursing care.
Delegates; reviews continuous quality improvement monitoring; analyzes and evaluates data; develops plans for correction.
Assists in developing, revising and implementing OPS, GI Lab, PACU and Pre-Admit Testing policies and procedures.
Participates in planning budgets for OPS, GI Lab, PACU and Pre-Admit Testing.
Assists with education and staff development activities.
Provides for the clinical orientation of new staff members.
Plans, controls, directs and coordinates administrative duties to ensure the functioning of the OPS , GI Lab, PACU and Pre-Admit Testing staff.
Completes probationary and annual staff performance reviews in a timely manner.
Reports changes of any type to OPS, GI Lab, PACU and Pre-Admit Testing staff and to departments affected by the changes (e.g. Pathology, Radiology, OR).
Represents OPS, GI Lab, PACU and Pre-Admit Testing at hospital committees as assigned.
Demonstrates knowledge of nursing theory and management; demonstrates knowledge of disaster and emergency policies and procedures. Keeps informed on new developments in perioperative nursing and surgery. Demonstrates knowledge of good interpersonal relationships.
Conducts monthly staff meetings encouraging staff to participate in problem solving.
Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain a steady level of productivity; self-motivated. Completes projects by due date.
Completes .edu’s and other required hospital education by the due date.
Adheres to SRRMC Behavior Standards.
Complies with San Ramon Regional Medical Center Policies/Procedures protecting patient information and the confidentiality of the information in accordance with the Federal and State regulations.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
- Graduate of an accredited RN Nursing Program
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
Minimum Experience/Skills:
- Minimum of four (4) years recent perioperative/ambulatory nursing experience
- Minimum of two (2) years recent perioperative/ambulatory management experience preferred
Licenses/Certificates/Credentials:
- Current CA Registered Nurse License
- Current BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers (AHA certified)
- Current ACLS certification (AHA certified)
- Current PALS certification (AHA certified)
- Certification in specialty - preferred
Pay Range: $72.00 - $115.21
Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience
