Under general supervision, the Maintenance Worker II is assigned to the Parks Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department and is responsible for performing a variety of skilled tasks in gardening and general grounds maintenance work including pruning and trimming trees and shrubs, mowing lawns, repairing park structures, and doing related work as required.

Assignments range from trail maintenance in the scenic foothills of Mt. Tamalpais to creek restoration along the historic Corte Madera Creek to caring for athletic fields along Richardson Bay. Work is performed in an outdoor setting in both developed and undeveloped areas of the city and may have to be accessed through difficult terrain. Work requires frequent bending, lifting, stooping, pushing and pulling motions for a variety of tasks.

The ideal candidate will be highly responsible, safety-conscious, and have a positive attitude. An ideal candidate will have two (2) years of practical experience in general grounds maintenance or garden work involving growing and caring for lawn areas, flowers, ornamental shrubs and trees. Any background in gardening, landscaping, or natural sciences is desired but not required.

Minimum qualifications include:

• Education and experience comprised of completion of the twelfth grade or GED.
• Possession of or ability to possess a valid driver's license issued by the State of California.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and work in a variety of outdoor settings.
• Enjoys the outdoors and working with their hands.
