POSITION PURPOSE:
The Pre-Admissions staff is to provide safe and effective communication to all patients, helping to prepare and educate patients on pre-admit instructions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position requires knowledge of both department and ambulatory surgery center policies and procedures relevant to the delivery of nursing care. Interpretive skills, frequent interactive and consultative associations, along with management and supervisory skills are inherent in this position. The ability to retrieve, communicate or otherwise present information in a written, auditory, or visual fashion is essential.
The primary method to express or exchange ideas is through the spoken word. Written, telephone and manual dexterity skills are required for this position. Communicate with Physicians when necessary. File chart notes and other medical information in appropriate chart, following proper charting procedures.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
❖ Possess knowledge of planned procedure.
❖ Communicates with physician’s offices on any important information relating to procedure
❖ Calls patient prior to surgery date to do an over the phone interview and/or review of “Passport” electronic medical profile. Also informs patient of arrival time for surgery.
❖ Verifies that all the correct paperwork is in the clinical chart.
❖ Makes sure to initial and/or sign all the required paperwork.
❖ Documents all the medication(s) that the patient is currently on.
❖ Verifies and documents all allergies that patient may have.
❖ Reviews all pre-operative test(s), history & physical and medical clearance from the Primary Care
Physician. Notifies Nurse Manager and Anesthesiologist of any abnormalities.
❖ Verifies patient information, allergies, planned procedure, and surgical site.
❖ Assembles current charts for upcoming procedures.
❖ Documents and communicates patient status, surgical intervention, and pertinent information to the
Nurse Manager.
❖ Communicates with surgical scheduler of any possible patient cancellations. Makes sure to fill out proper cancellation form for any cancellations if applicable.
❖ Responsible and actively involved in the Quality Assessment / Performance Improvement activities.
OTHER DUTIES
❖ This person is expected to work beyond scheduled hours if circumstances require it as determined by Nurse Manager
❖ Accepts and acts per positive constructive criticism to upgrade abilities, as observed by Nurse
Manager and/or Charge RN.
❖ Uses free time constructively as determined by the Nurse Manager.
❖ Will perform all other duties as assigned, as determined Nurse Manager and/or Charge RN.
❖ Responsive to patient needs solving patient problems and issues.
❖ Assist in cleaning beds, remove used linen, and other Orderly duties.
❖ Filing, faxing, and copying as requested.
❖ Experience with computerized scheduling systems and multi-line telephones.
❖ Experience with clinic procedures for pulling and tracking medical charts, x-rays, and other patient related documents.
❖ Working knowledge of medical terminology.
QUALIFICATIONS:
❖ High School Graduate.
❖ Minimum of one (1) year related experience.
❖ Certificates and/or certifications within their related field.
❖ Possess knowledge of modern office equipment, systems, and procedures.
❖ Ability to work independently and takes initiative to improve overall office operations.
❖ Strong interpersonal skills.
❖ Computer Literate.
❖ Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
❖ Works with limited supervision.
❖ A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
❖ Current Florida Nursing license/ or Florida paramedic’s license: current ACLS course, CPR/BLS course, HIV/AIDS education required, Domestic Violence, Medication errors. (If Applicable)
❖ Demonstrates initiative
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
❖ Ability to stand for long periods of time
❖ Ability to lift at least 30 lbs
❖ Ability to speak distinctly to be understood
