POSITION: Long-Term Assistant Principal
August through October 2023
Shrewsbury Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a Long-Term Substitute Assistant Principal for Oak Middle School to cover for a maternity leave. Salary commensurate with experience/to be negotiated.

The Assistant Principal is an important part of the school leadership team and assists the Principal in the operation and leadership of the school, including curriculum and program development, scheduling, student services, teacher supervision and student discipline. The Assistant Principal will need to develop and maintain strong collaborative parent, staff, and community relationships.
The successful candidates will work collaboratively to provide school-wide leadership. Assistant principals share a number of responsibilities including leading or assisting with selection of faculty and staff; working with other leaders and faculty members to develop student schedules; developing the master schedule; overseeing student support services; working with faculty and students on co-curricular activities; supervising and monitoring student attendance; actively involving parents in the educational process; conducting teacher observations and evaluations; assisting in maintaining a respectful environment throughout the school community; coordinating building facility needs; coordinating transportation and food service needs; supporting curriculum and professional development programs and implementing student assessments. The assistant principal serves as a grade level administrator, interacting with students and parents at that specific grade.

It is the goal of Oak Middle School that all students are prepared academically, socially, emotionally, and physically for success in high school and beyond.
Oak Middle School has a 1:1 iPad program for all students and uses Schoology as a learning management system.
The enrollment is generally 940+ students in grades 7-8. The Oak Middle School leadership team includes the principal, two assistant principals, four curriculum coordinators shared with Sherwood Middle School, and the Director of Middle School Special Education, also shared with Sherwood Middle School, and various K-12 Directors. Oak Middle School has a highly committed and dedicated faculty and staff.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or beyond
- Principal/Assistant Principal Licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
- Demonstrated leadership at the middle school level
- Ability to work collaboratively with the entire Oak middle school community
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong technology skills
- Ability to handle multiple areas of responsibility in a fast-paced environment
- Availability to work evenings and weekends for student events
- Demonstrate the core values of Shrewsbury Public Schools and Oak Middle School
- Works flexibly in a changing school environment
