Position Summary Information

General Information
The School of Theatre and Dance seeks a full-time Lighting Supervisor. Under the supervision of the School Director, Production Manager and faculty Lighting Designer, the Lighting Supervisor is responsible for the day to day activities of the lighting shop in the School of Theatre and Dance and will oversee all installation of related lighting equipment for an eight show season during the academic year. This individual will work closely with the faculty lighting designer to ensure all lighting needs are met for each production, under the supervision of the production manager. This position requires some nights and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee all installation of related lighting equipment for an eight show season during the academic year.
  • Oversee and instruct students enrolled in the lighting practicum and student employees.
  • Supervise student Head Electricians in their duties.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, guest designers and the public.
  • Be sensitive to faculty, student and guest designer needs.
  • Conventional fixture repair and maintenance.
  • Lead and teach a diverse group of student learners of varying abilities with patience and thoughtfulness.
  • Exhibit behavior that supports the mission, vision, and values of the university. Communicate and employ interpersonal actions that model high standards of professional, responsible, accountable, and ethical conduct.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Must be highly organized with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Direct experience with ETC dimming and control (EOS) and networking.
  • Former experience in professional and/or academic settings.
  • Knowledge of standard theatrical electrical practices, including AC and DC circuitry.
  • Knowledge of LED technologies as applicable to theatrical contexts.
  • Extensive knowledge of the collaborative production processes within the context of theatre and dance.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Ability to motivate and lead a diverse student group.


Preferred:
  • A bachelor’s degree in Theatre with an emphasis in design and technology or lighting.
  • Certification from ETCP, VariLite, Robe or ETC.
