The Karl E. Mundt Library at Dakota State University is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Library Associate to join our team. As a Library Associate, you will be responsible for assisting with a variety of library services, including managing the circulation desk, inter-library loan, library programming, and supervising a team of student employees.

Responsibilities:
  • Recruit, schedule, train, and supervise student assistants in the public service functions and procedures of the library.
  • Manage circulation desk activities (checkout, reserves, etc.) to ensure efficient operation and function.
  • Manage audio visual equipment reservations, circulation, maintenance, and inventory.
  • Use specialized online tools and software to borrow materials from and lend materials to other libraries.
  • Highlight and promote library services, resources, and programs online via social media.
  • Develop passive displays to showcase library resources.
  • Collaborate with other departments and student groups to develop, host, or sponsor events.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Exceptional customer service.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Positive attitude, collaborative, friendly, open to change and adaptable.
  • Proficient with standard office software (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to learn specialized library and campus software quickly and to adapt to changes as needed.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work an occasional evening may be required to cover when student employees aren’t available.
  • Experience supervising and managing others is preferred.
