Gary’s Wine & Marketplace is an upscale wine and gourmet shop with locations in Napa Valley and New Jersey. Located in the heart of St. Helena, Gary's is widely recognized as one of the best wine retailers in the United States. Most notably, Gary’s Wine & Marketplace recently won the 2021 Beverage Dynamics Retailer of the Year, the 2021 Wine-Searcher Gold Award for Overall List in St. Helena, and is a 2021 Wine Enthusiast Wine Star Award Nominee for Retailer of the Year.

Gary’s Wine & Marketplace is seeking a wine buyer to oversee all purchasing and sales decisions related to domestic and imported wine for its St. Helena location.

Major responsibilities for this role will include overseeing the product reorder process, overseeing new product selection, and overseeing wine sales. These responsibilities are further detailed below:

• Product reordering: Reorders are performed by taking into account historical sales trends, consumer preferences, and pricing. An analytical approach to reordering helps to ensure that the store maintains an optimal level of inventory.
• New product selection: New product selection requires consideration of the product quality, pricing/margin, supply chain constraints, supplier relationships, and consumer preferences. The wine buyer must synthesize these considerations to ensure we only bring in wines that we can stand behind and sell.
• Overseeing wine sales: The candidate in this position will foster relationships with top clientele in an effort to sell them high-end wines. Part of this role involves selecting and sourcing wines for the Gary’s Wine email offers, which are sent to a list of over 100,000 email addresses.

Requirements

• Knowledge of wine portfolios and distributors in California
• Strong knowledge of producers and regions that are sought after by local guests to the St. Helena store.
• Excellent palate.
• Extensive knowledge of domestic and international wines.
• Experience purchasing domestic & imported wines.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize within a fast-paced working environment.
• Ability to work cohesively within a team.
