Law Clerk – Combined Courts
Hourly Salary Range: $24.97
The Law Clerk opportunity is a full-time Milwaukee County position and therefore eligible for benefits

Job Summary: The Law Clerk provides legal research and drafts legal memoranda, orders and decisions for circuit court judges. The major objective is to ensure that circuit court judges issue rulings, orders and decisions efficiently and effectively.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform legal research and draft legal memoranda, orders and decisions for circuit court judges to review and sign.
- Assist the circuit court judges by acting as bailiff. Bring up juries and monitor jury deliberations.
- Perform similar tasks on an as-needed basis
- Current Wisconsin resident
- Law degree or current 3rd year law student will also qualify
- Exchange of basic information and recommendations with internal and/or external contacts.
- Maintain sensitive or confidential information.
- Explain and gather information, answer queries, or provide assistance to internal and/or external contacts.
- Read, write and comprehend simple instructions, reports, short correspondence and memoranda.
- Speak effectively before both internal and/or external groups.
- Read, analyze, and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals, scientific/technical journals and procedures, government regulations, financial and legal documents.
- Prepare and/or present written communications that pertain to controversial and complex topics.
- Regularly makes decisions of responsibilities, involving evaluation of information. Decisions may require further development or application of alternatives or precedents.
- Execute decisions within limits of standard policy and procedures.
- Interpret and adapt to established practices and procedures using independent judgment to meet situations to which applications are not clearly defined.
- Knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
