The Division of Mining, Land & Water, Land Survey Section in the Anchorage office has an opening in the Statewide Platting Unit for a Senior Statewide Platting Surveyor. We are looking for applicants who have a good attitude, experience in issuing survey instructions, survey determinations, and are motivated to excel as part of a team of dedicated surveyors working for the people of Alaska. Mission and Culture
The DNR mission is "To provide for the appropriate use and management of Alaska's state-owned land and water, aiming toward maximum use consistent with the public interest.”

The Survey Section provides surveying services to manage and maximize use of more than 100 million acres of state owned land. Boundary disputes, easement vacations, subdivisions, and development of state land all require the professional services of the DNR Land Survey Section.

Core Responsibilities
The Senior Statewide Platting Surveyor leads a team of one professional land surveyor and one Land Survey Specialist that prepare Survey Instructions, performs survey determinations, reviews of BLM survey plats, and performs Title 38 plat reviews. This position is responsible for the projects assigned to the Unit, including technical review and staff assignments. This position schedules specific work projects to perform and determines procedures and approaches applicable to each project.

Located in the Atwood Building in beautiful downtown Anchorage, this position has a cubical with a south-facing window. No travel is required for this position.

We are looking for a candidate that possesses the following position-specific competencies:

• Technical experience writing survey instructions, performing survey determinations, and plat reviews.
• Demonstrated project management experience with the ability to organize and coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements promptly.
• Demonstrate proficiency with AutoCAD Civil3D or Carlson Survey, ArcGIS, and other common survey software.
• Demonstrate communication and technical writing skills showing courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences.
• Works with minimal supervision; self-starter; identifies and sets realistic goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor in Alaska AND one year experience as a registered Land Surveyor.

Special Note:
Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor in Alaska is required for appointment to this job class. Applicants registered in another state may apply, but appointment is conditional upon receiving Alaskan registration as a Professional Land Surveyor. Registration may be allowed without examination to applicants holding registration in another state with similar requirements.
