Job Description
The Kitchen Manager is responsible for coordinating employees in the preparation and serving of nutritious and appealing meals; promoting cleanliness, efficiency, and friendliness towards students and staff; adhering to USDA and Maine state rules and regulations.
The Falmouth Schools are located on a 100-acre district K-12 campus in Falmouth Maine, a coastal community bordering the city of Portland. Our campus features extensive fields, trails, gardens and hoop houses, and rich opportunities for collaboration between schools. Over the past three years, each of our three schools in the district has been a recipient of the National Blue Ribbon Award: student achievement is exemplary and the community takes great pride in all academic, co-curricular, and athletic accomplishments. Supervision Received:
The Kitchen Manager is directly responsible to the Director of School Nutrition.
Work Responsibilities:
The duties of the Kitchen Manager include, but are not limited to the following:
Plans, directs and participates in the preparation and serving of all food.
Responsible for the supervision, security, monthly counting of food and supplies inventory received and used.
Responsible for the security of revenue from cafeteria services until it has been turned over to the Director of School Nutrition or their designee.
Works closely with the building administrator in cases of scheduling, discipline and other related occurrences.
Assigns, directs, plans, and oversees the work of kitchen staff.
Assures cross training among kitchen staff.
Responsible for sanitation practices in the kitchen.
Responsible for checking that all equipment in the kitchen is in a safe working condition, and notifies the appropriate authority when repairs or replacements are needed.
Responsible for ordering necessary food and supplies.
Collaborates with the other kitchen managers.
Makes suggestions for improving the general operation of the school nutrition program to the Director of School Nutrition.
May be called upon to help in an after hours kitchen emergency.
Qualifications:
Good customer service skills
Ability to collaborate with and manage coworkers
Ability to plan ahead
Knowledge of scratch cooking and baking
ServSafe certified
Good math and computer skills
Able to lift 50 pounds
Education - High school diploma or GED
Additional:
Schedule – approximately 6:00am - 1:30pm, 7.5 hrs/day, school year position.
A district-run background check is required. Pay commensurate with education and experience. This position includes a generous and comprehensive benefits package (including 100% district paid single heath, vision, and dental coverages).
