Summary
The APS IT Architect is responsible for the overall direction for the organization's information technical. Develops architectural approaches and solutions, conducts, documents current systems, and develops recommendations of how to proceed with information technology solutions and services.

Minimum Requirements
IT Architect I
- Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field and 2 years' of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
- Requires working technical knowledge gained through experience within a job area or system
IT Architect II
- Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field and 5 years of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
- Requires strong technical knowledge within a job area or system and basic knowledge across related technical areas
IT Architect III
- Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field and 7 years of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
- Requires in-depth level of technical knowledge within a job area and working knowledge of other technical areas
IT Architect Senior
- Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field and 10 years of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
- Requires mastery level technical knowledge, typically obtained through advanced education and experience across multiple business areas or systems to improve technology planning and development
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:
- Uses/integrates in-depth technical knowledge across one or more divisional areas or systems to improve technology planning and development
- Requires mastery level knowledge of technical area typically obtained through advanced education and experience
- Ability to develop information systems to deliver the business strategy; analyze emerging technologies and make appropriate recommendations; implement a process-based approach to meeting organizational goals; assess a broad range of information solutions and products; develop architecture designs
Major Accountabilities
1) Performs the most complex duties of the technical architecture positions and is thought of as an expert in solving architecture issues within and outside the organization
2) Leads the technical and business discussions relative to future enterprise direction
3) Defines, implements, and enforces an overall architecture practice, principles and standards
4) Leads the creation of EA governing principles
5) Creates, evaluates and implements plans and design proposals for high impact IT solutions and their use involving leading edge technologies and methods considering key factors such as their long-term effectiveness (service delivery and cost), practicality, technical limitations, and criticality
6) Leads or contributes to designs applied to all aspects of business systems and/or infrastructure prototypes and eventual implementation
7) Approves modification of the enterprise architecture to address project needs
8) Leads and drives research of emerging technologies, market trends, and industry and provides recommendations to ensure continued alignment with business
9) Provides technical leadership and establishes direction for the IT architecture, standards, design, and implementation approaches for the company's application systems and/or infrastructure
10) Participates in industry/knowledge reference groups
11) Provides guidance, coaching, and training to other employees across the company within area of expertise
12) Leads sub-division teams in complex technical projects
13) Manage large, complex project initiatives of strategic importance to the organization, involving large cross-divisional teams

Flex Role:
This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic set up are present. Pending agreement with leadership, employees hired into this role will be able to choose where they prefer to perform their work. Employees will have two options to choose from:
- APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.
- Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.
- Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
