This position is responsible for the scheduling of child abuse and neglect intakes, managing community calls and walk-in clients and ensuring coordination of all investigative parties requesting services at the Child Advocacy Center (CAC).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide support and crisis intervention with clients on community calls and walk-ins.
  • Perform the intake function for referrals from law enforcement and Child Protective Services (CPS), gathering background information and coordinating the scheduling of interviews and medical evaluations.
  • Manage and track the daily intakes flagged as Child Advocacy Coordination Required Intakes.
  • Ensure a coordinated response between law enforcement and CPS when scheduling forensic interviews and medical exams. Assist with coordination of CAC lead intakes, contacting caregivers or professionals. Track CAC lead intakes and report back to LE and CPS all follow-up and services provided.
  • Timely input of case information related to referral reason into agency database.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with system partners.
  • Assist in identifying training needs for child welfare staff and community partners related to child development, trauma, parent-child relationships and availability of community services and resources for children and families and other best practice trainings.
  • Ensure culturally competent services are provided without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, gender or sexual orientation.
  • Other Intake Coordinator duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Education and Training

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field.
  • Training and experience in child abuse/neglect investigations.

Work Experience

  • Previous professional experience related to the investigation of child abuse and neglect cases.
  • Previous experience working with Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services computer system (NDEN) preferred.
  • Previous experience in working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of family violence and the dynamics of child abuse and neglect.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development and the impact of trauma.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate problem solving and conflict management skills.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access and Outlook.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cultural diversity and ability to exhibit sensitivity in dealing with people of varied backgrounds, beliefs and abilities.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with a wide range of professionals including law enforcement, social services, medical, mental health providers and attorneys.
  • Ability to listen to ideas and accept feedback from others.
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to a quickly changing schedule and handle distractions, interruptions and stressful situations.
  • Must possess time management skills.
  • Good working knowledge of community resources.
  • Must respect and maintain confidentiality.

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours.
  • Must submit to a thorough criminal history background check.
  • Must have access to a vehicle, possess a valid Nebraska driver’s license and proof of insurance.
