Legent Health is looking for Inpatient Medical Coder III to join our team. We seek talented partners transforming healthcare, one patient at a time.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- CCS, CIS, RHIT or RHIA certification required.
- Four (4) to Six (6) years of experience in inpatient facility coding required.
- One (1) year of Orthopedic and Spine surgical coding experience required.
- Knowledge of the ICD-10, ICD-9, and CPT-/HCPCS universal coding systems.
- Knowledge of coding and clinic operating policies.
- Knowledge of insurance carrier coding requirements to ensure proper coding based on License and specialty.
- Strong computer skills in MS Office/Windows (Word and Excel required).
- Knowledge of Medical terminology.
- Knowledge of third-party billing procedures across a variety of payer systems.
- Knowledge of billing and financial concepts.

Position Summary
The Inpatient Medical Coder III is responsible for translating healthcare providers’ diagnostic and procedural phrases into coded form. Reviews and analyzes health records daily to ensure correct coding.
Position Responsibilities
- Analyzes provider documentation to assure the appropriate ICD-10 Diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCs Codes, and ICD-10 PCS Codes are assigned accurately based on medical documentation.
- Evaluates the calculated DRG for accuracy.
- Select and sequence principle and secondary diagnosis and procedure codes as appropriate.
- Assists billing staff with establishing the medical necessity of charges, claims, and clearinghouse edits.
- Responsible for working coding denials as assigned and providing feedback to management on trending issues.
- Works closely with physicians and clinicians on accurate clinical documentation through creating appropriate physician queries.
- Knowledgeable of billing and coding requirements for governmental guidelines and private insurance payors.
- Maintain and complete productivity and tracking logs as required.
- Evaluates medical records for documentation consistency and adequacy.
- Enters and organizes the codes into management software.
- Perform coding audits as assigned and provide feedback to management.
- Assist with coding denials escalations and working with Patient Accounting team for resolution.
- Attends various meetings and professional development programs as required.
- Mentor other coders in understanding policies and procedures and HIM systems.
- Serves as an escalation point to other coding team members, providing subject matter expert guidance and recommends corrective actions to Manager.
- Completes special projects as assigned.
- May be asked to train other team members.
- Other duties as assigned.
