About the Evansville State Hospital:
Evansville State Hospital is one of the Indiana State Psychiatric Hospitals who are committed to the mission of Hope and Recovery. Residing on 88 acres on the east side of Evansville, Ind., our facility provides medical treatment for chronic mental illness and substance abuse disorders from our dedicated team of psychiatrists and advanced practice professionals. Active Treatment helps our patients achieve their goals directed towards living in the most non-restrictive environment possible. Our team of professionals assist our patients in the treatment process involving medical staff, nursing, psychology, social work, rehabilitation therapy and our community integration program. Evansville State Hospital continues to maintain accreditation through The Joint Commission as an Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital as well as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services certification as a Psychiatric Medicare/Medicaid Hospital.
Salary: This position traditionally starts at an annual salry of $71,500.00. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.
Location: This position is located in Evansville, IN.
About the Job:
Responsible for the Infection Prevention and Control program, Employee Health program, Medical Equipment program, Medical Support department, continual professional improvement activity and for maintaining professional relationships within the hospital and with other pertinent organizations/agencies. Maintains compliance in applicable standards/regulations.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Develops and supervises the hospital Infection Control & Prevention and Employee Health programs incorporating professional standards and evidence based guidelines when appropriate. Chair of the Infection Control & Prevention Committee.
Maintains compliance with applicable standards (i.e. Joint Commission). Represents the hospital Infection Control/Employee Health programs during surveys by accrediting/certifying agencies.
Oversees the Medical Support Department. Provides triage services to employees during normal working hours.
Make patient care assignments and assist in developing treatment plans in collaboration with other clinical staff.
Provide ongoing assessment and documentation of the patients' physical and psychosocial status from admission to discharge.
Complete medication administration supervision monitors and clinical observation notes for support staff.
Completes required documentation of nursing notes, transfer forms and other records.
Educate patients and family members regarding medication, procedures and treatment goals and objectives.
Respond and intervene to emergency situations and agitated patients.
Provide orientation and support to staff to the unit.
Responsible for ensuring the proper safety and infection control standards, including compliance management, are met for the unit.
Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

What You'll Need for Success:
This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Two (2) years’ experience in developmental disability, Geriatric, or Psychiatric Nursing or accredited college training in Nursing preferred.
- License to practice nursing in the State of Indiana as a Registered Nurse.
- Must hold and maintain a CPR.
- Must stay current with behavioral intervention training.
- Proficiency in computer skills and ability to learn other programs used in maintaining electronic medical records.
- Good interpersonal skills, good verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to understand and apply of medical and facility terminology.
- Ability to use MS Office applications and electronic patient records.
- Ability to serve as a patient advocate.
- Knowledge of and the ability to interpret nursing and facility policies and procedures.
- Additional knowledge and/or ability may be required based on the population the facility will serve such as: children, adolescents, geriatrics, etc.
- Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
- Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
