JOB DESCRIPTION:

Arlington Public Schools (APS) requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless a medical or religious exemption is approved. Being fully vaccinated means that an individual is at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen (i.e. Pfizer, Moderna, and/or Johnson and Johnson). As a condition of employment, newly hired employees will be required to provide proof of their COVID-19 vaccination.

This position is a 1.0 FTE located at Wakefield High School .

The In-School Alternative Program Coordinator provides support by monitoring and assisting students in the In-School Suspension setting. A wide variety of tasks are performed to support the teacher in the teaching-learning process for students.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide supervision for students who are assigned to ISS.
  • Review In-School Suspension policies, procedures, and student expectations with students daily.
  • Work with students and/or other staff members on issues such as behavior management and the prevention of undesirable behaviors that resulted in student being assigned to ISS.
  • Monitor all ISS assignments; provide encouragement and feedback to students; monitor tests and computer work; provide instructional assistance as appropriate.
  • Email teachers in advance for work requests and complete student Work Completion Logs for all students assigned to the ISS room.
  • Facilitate and arrange delivery of student lunches when necessary.
  • Refer behavior problems to School Administrators.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Constantly monitors the safety and well-being of students.
  • Monitors student behavior and helps maintain discipline in the classroom; assists with crisis prevention; restrains students as needed.
  • Assists students with learning; reinforces and clarifies instruction; provides one-on-one assistance as needed.
  • Maintains and respects the confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
  • Praises and reinforces achievement of students; promotes self-esteem.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in maintaining an orderly classroom.
  • Maintains reports and records as assigned by teacher/supervisor.

EXPERIENCE:


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with staff, students, and the public.

  • Dual endorsement in English as a Second Language and/or Special Education, or in any other content area, is preferred but not required.
