Human Resources Specialist (Full-time position – 36-40 hours per week)
Job Objective
- Provide all phases of Human Resources support to the church staff
- Provides Account Payables support to the financial office,
- Process and oversees the volunteer application process
- Provide administrative support to the Administrative Pastor
Qualifications
- 3-5 years Human Resources experience, accounts payable/bookkeeping skills or at a minimum a good understanding of HR functions and basic Accounting principles.
- Exposure to benefits administration
- Must be able to keep information confidential
- Demonstrate good judgment and decision making skills
- Attention to detail is a must
- Must have excellent verbal and written skills
- Proficient with basic computer skills, data entry skills, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and with Insurance Systems or ability to learn these systems quickly
- Must be flexible and be available to work the week after Christmas, if necessary
- Knowledge of Ministry Platform and/or Blackbaud software is a plus
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and a credit check
- Ability to work independently
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Human Resources administration – manages all phases of hiring employees - includes writing job descriptions, screening applicants, interviewing, reference checks, background checks, job offers, on-boarding, processing benefit selections, and inputting data in HRIS system. Processes employee terminations paperwork to include conducting exit interviews, data entry into benefit systems and HRIS system. Serves as a resource for all employee questions related to Human Resources.
- Benefits administration – manages entire Open Enrollment Activities, seek out bids and provide data to companies that are bidding, review bids and select along with Leadership team the next years vendors, develop the open enrollment booklet for employees, conduct open enrollment meeting, ensure online open enrollment system is set-up and ready, interface with insurance vendors to resolve issues, provides support to employees, insures meeting government requirements such as CMS and the ACA, as well as inputting data in insurance systems and HRIS system, and reconciles insurance company invoices and submit for payment. Provides all benefits support to eligible employees for medical, dental, COBRA, life, LTD, AD&D, HRA, FSA, as well as voluntary insurances offered to employees.
- Volunteer Management – reviews volunteer application, verifies eligibility to volunteer, checks references, review background checks results, coordinates volunteer work, processes volunteer renewals every three years, and interfaces with ministerial staff on issues.
- Accounts Payable -- performs general accounts payable duties to include processing contributions, invoices, and payments; posting to general ledger; and reconciliation of monthly credit card charges.
- Worker Compensation Management -- keeps Workers Compensation posters current, auditing yearly to ensure the panel of doctors is up to date, Completes First Reports for employee injuries and submits to insurance company, acts as liaison with doctor’s office, injured employee and workers compensation company
- Maintains employee, benefits, vehicle, administrative, and background records management
- Manages and processes Heath Reimbursement Account claims.
- Provide routine administrative support to the Administrative Pastor
- Provide notary service for church business
- Other duties assigned by the Administrative Pastor
- Aid in the implementation of new software packages as necessary, i.e. Blackbaud, Time and Attendance, Ministry Platform, Benefits Administration
- Comply with government requirements regarding Centers for Medicare Services and Affordable Care Act

Job Type: Full-time
