Job description
JOB TITLE: Special Education Teacher, Options
REPORTS TO: Principal
TERMS: Teacher contract, 184 days per contract year
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the principal and special education director, the teacher is responsible for performing a variety of skilled tasks related to providing appropriate learning experiences that promote the development of skills identified in student Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Individualized Service Plans (ISP), including academics, behavioral, communication, social, independent, and vocational. The teacher will also be responsible for completing state and other assessments as required.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate in the development and implementation of ISPs, and IEPs goals.
- Create daily/weekly class and lesson plans
- Provide differentiated learning experiences that support students in the acquisition of academic, social, communication, behavioral, independent and vocational skills as stated in the IEP/ISP.
- Maintain accurate and compliant student records and prepare documentation as required by law
- Actively participate as a member of the case conference committee to assist in the development of measurable goals, benchmarks, and objectives
- Consistently monitor the implementation of student goals, update all required progress monitoring reports and provide formal reports to families quarterly.
- Ensures that any needed accommodations and modifications on the district, state and national assessments are implemented according to the student’s IEP.
- Consistently implement formal behavior management plans and effectively respond to and manages crisis situations in accordance to procedures
- Completes all student related reporting including attendance, grade reporting, incident reports, family communication documentation within the given timeframe.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings as assigned
- Collaborate and communicate as requested as related to the reduction of maladaptive classroom behaviors and promoting appropriate social behaviors in the academic setting
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to take initiative by identifying problems and offering solutions that work towards program improvement and development
- Willingness to be flexible, be open minded and adjust accordingly during program development
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education; Licensed in special education-mild and/or intense certification required
- Demonstrates and understanding of federal, state, and local mandates governing the determination and delivery of special education services
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check
- Certification in CPI, willingness to be trained if not certified
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
