Silvec Biologics is a well-funded biotechnology company developing the first non-GMO, single application process to vaccinate fruit trees and vines against pathogens. The technology is based on a nature derived VIGS (virus-induced gene silencing) vector discovered by Silvec’s co-founder, Dr. Anne Simon, one of the world’s foremost plant virologists. Silvec’s RNA-based solution can deliver siRNAs into citrus, grapevine, cacao, papaya, etc. to target bacterial, fungal, viral and nematode pathogens. We believe that this technology represents a comparable breakthrough for trees as the invention of RNA vaccines was for humans.

Silvec is currently seeking to fill an entry level position for a Horticulture technician. Successful candidates should have a degree (BA, BS) in Horticulture, Plant Science, Plant Pathology or a related field. Routine responsibilities include, but are not limited to, plant propagation, transplanting, pruning, IPM scouting, pest management, sourcing plant materials, optimization of growth conditions, plant maintenance, watering and fertilization. Advanced techniques may include plant tissue culture, grafting, and agroinfiltration. Pesticide applicators certificate a plus. Must have your own vehicle.

The company is located in a state-of-the-art, 6,000 sq ft facility in Gaithersburg, Maryland in the heart of the Washington DC biotech corridor.
