Summary:

We are seeking a Horizontal Directional Drill Operator to join our T&D Services team in Alabama. This position will be installing Underground Residential Distribution power facilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform underground line installation and maintenance. This includes installing conduit by HDD and open trench methods, pulling cable, and setting padmount transformers and pedestals.
• Operate company vehicle.
• Operate HDD machines, HDD guidance systems, mini excavators, backhoes, cable pulling machines, and hydrovac trailers.
• Must know and understand state and local laws, DOT, and OSHA standards
• Perform services in a safe and timely manner.
• Must be able to understand and complete required paperwork and documentation of the services.
• Communicates with customers, property owners, general public, other contractors, utility representatives, and government agencies.
• Maintain company equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

May be responsible for supervising 2-4 employees.

Requirements:

• Clean driving record. Must have a Class A Commercial Driver s License. Tanker endorsement is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret prints and plans.
• Ability to drill in rock conditions and mix drilling mud.
• Ability to use laptops, tablets, and produce bore profiles.
• Effective communication skills.
• Be able to lift/move 50 pounds.
• Ability to install underground distribution conduit and cable.
• Must be able to pass a skills assessment at start of employment.
• Pass pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2 or more years of experience as an HDD operator.
• Experience operating machines up to 40k.
• Experience in all soil conditions, especially rock.
• Preferred experience in Underground Electric construction.
