SALARY & BENEFITS: Based on current teacher contract
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold a current teacher license in School Counseling or be able and willing to obtain one prior to the start of the assignment
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Building Principal
CONTRACT DAYS & HOURS: 185 days from mid-August through mid-June as dictated by the annual school calendar. On contract days, building hours are typically 7:30am - 3:30pm, but may be occasionally changed or extended to help fulfill professional duties. Some time outside of the building will be needed to successfully complete duties and responsibilities listed below.
Additionally, the High School Counselor has an extra 180 hours of paid time that should be used between the last workshop day in the spring and the opening workshop week in the fall. The schedule for the summer should be arranged with the building principal prior to the start of the summer.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Provide short term support for students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional problems.
2. Be a point of contact for students who are struggling with addiction or other mental health issues and help them find the help they need.
3. Help lead efforts to recognize students for their excellence.
4. Main point of contact for students and staff through the annual registration process.
5. Assist with the creation of the master schedule for the school.
6. A ssist with the planning and implementation of the annual graduation ceremony.
7. Work with students, families, and staff to create plans of support for students who require them.
8. Provide support to classroom teachers who are designing lessons and units around items related to post-high school success.
9. Ensure that all students have a full schedule of classes that accurately reflects their post high school plans.
10. Track credit completion, both during the school year and during the summer, to ensure on-time graduation for students.
11. If students are not on track for on-time graduation, develop a formal graduation plan to share with the student and parents.
12. Primary person in charge of career exploration for students in the high school.
13. Organize and coordinate Advanced Placement testing.
14. Organize field trips that pertain to career/college planning and exploration.
15. Attend scholarship ceremonies in the area for outstanding students.
16. Organize new student welcome meetings and provide paperwork in the case of a student transferring.
17. Present to classrooms on various mental health and college readiness topics.
18. Point person for PSEO and online supplemental classes registration.
