The Town of Stoughton is seeking applicants to fill the position of Heavy Motor Equipment Operator. This is a full-time (40 hrs./week), benefited, union position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Operates hoisting equipment such as large excavators, backhoes, front end loaders, catch basin machines, street sweepers, graders, rollers, etc., where the equipment requires a special license from the MA Dept. of Public Safety.

· Changes tires, lights, and batteries; services and makes minor adjustments to equipment in a timely manner; keeps maintenance record and reports to office.

· May perform manual labor tasks or the duties of a Motor Equipment Operator.

· May operate any Public Works equipment.

· Responsible for the preventive maintenance, upkeep and cleanliness of all facets and components of equipment used (including notification to the proper parties of any issues related to the equipment).

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works under the general supervision of the DPW Superintendent and direct supervision of a designated foreman.

The work environment is the same as the rest of the Public Works Department or as otherwise directed by the Superintendent of Public Works or his Assistants.

Must be available for ice and snow operations and other emergency operations during and after normal working hours.

LICENSES OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Must have previous excavation and loader experience, a Hoisting Equipment license with a 2A, and ability to obtain 4E and 4G endorsements within 12 months, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.

PROCEDURE FOR MAKING SELECTION:

Selection of applicants for promotion in LABOR SERVICE will take into account and evaluation of such factors as: Seniority, Job Knowledge, Attendance Record, Dependability, Initiative and Cooperation, etc.

SALARY: $29.47/Hr.
