Phoenix, AZ 85003

Job description

In July 2021, the City of Phoenix created the nation's first publicly funded Office of Heat Response and Mitigation, charged with establishing a cohesive strategy to address the growing hazard of urban heat. Working across City departments as well as with external partners, the office increases the community's capacity to identify, prepare for, and respond to extreme heat events and the increasing frequency of high-temperature days that adversely affect residents' and visitors' health and comfort.

The City of Phoenix Office of Heat Response and Mitigation is looking for a Heat Resilience Project Management Assistant to support ongoing projects and initiatives across the department. The Heat Resilience Project Management Assistant will serve in a multifaceted role, responding to the needs of the department Project Managers. Such roles may include assisting with built environment heat mitigation projects and heat response and community outreach projects. The Heat Resilience Project Management Assistant will collaborate across City departments and with external partners to coordinate and implement heat response and mitigation priorities.

This is a temporary, grant-supported position that is currently funded through December 31, 2024, with a possibility of being made regular in a future budget cycle. The temporary position will have benefits but will not earn city retirement credits or participate financially into the city’s retirement program. If the successful candidate is a current City employee, all benefits will still be applicable and the employee will still contribute to their pension. Temporary positions are not covered under civil service rules, and thus employment is considered “at-will” and employees may be separated at any time.
