This position also serves as the Community Based Prevention Section liaison between the Department of Health, Health Care Authority and Department of Social and Health Services programs to assist in coordinating quality improvement and care coordination efforts as it relates to heart disease, stroke and diabetes prevention including the risk factors for these and related chronic conditions.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise, coach, and counsel professional staff in their performance of program work.
- Enhance the effectiveness of employees through timely appraisal and professional development opportunities.
- Negotiates and writes contract statements of work, applying program requirements to contract language based on grant funding language to include measurable performance goals and deliverables.
- Create timelines to ensure federal reporting requirements are met in a timely fashion and lead the relationship with grant funder leadership.
- Represent the state program to enhance public health policy development; integrate planning and implementation of policy, systems or norms change with internal and external partners; and develop and sustain resources for improved public health policy development and implementation.
The duty station for this hybrid position is in Tumwater, WA. The incumbent will be required to meet in-person and virtually with partners and will work with their supervisor to identify an appropriate work schedule and balance including telework and reporting to the Tumwater, WA duty station for work activities. We anticipate the incumbent will work onsite at least once per month.

The Community-Based Prevention Section, within the Office of Healthy and Safe Communities, works with community partners to develop, adopt and implement policies; and support system and environmental change to prevent chronic disease, injuries, and chronic conditions.

Required Qualifications
Note: Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile. Experience may have been gained concurrently.
Option 1: Six (6) years managing or supervising professional staff, preferably in a health-related field. Experience should include developing work plans, setting direction for work, coordinating work among team members, monitoring performance, acting as a subject matter expert; AND four (4) or more years of professional management or consultative experience in a health services, prevention, or public health program.
Option 2: Bachelor’s degree or higher in social services, public health, public administration, business administration, or related field; AND four (4) or more years of professional management or consultative experience in a health services, prevention, or public health program including three (3) or more years of experience supervising professional staff or serving as a team lead including developing work plans, setting direction for work, coordinating work among team members, monitoring performance, and giving feedback to team members.
Option 3: Master’s degree or higher in social services, public health, public administration, business administration, or related field; AND two (2) or more years of professional management or consultative experience in a health services, prevention, or public health program, including one (1) or more years or experience supervising professional staff or serving as a team lead including developing work plans, setting direction for work, coordinating work among team members, monitoring performance, and giving feedback to team members.
AND,
- Demonstrated experience using electronic mail and internet.
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams).
