Summary

Environmental Services is front line infection prevention responsible for performing services in accordance with established organizational policies and procedures for providing a safe environment, achieved by demonstrating the principles of cleaning, disinfection, and quality assurance toward the reduction of harmful pathogens for the benefit of patients, visitors, and staff. This position will be required perform all various types of floorcare work and must be able perform independently and competently duties outlined in level II.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

High school graduate preferred or GED equivalent.

Speak, read, and write English (as demonstrated by completion of application and job interview).

Ability to read and understand written instructions such as labels and work assignments.

Housekeeping and/or hospital experience preferred.

Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

Ability demonstrated in floor finishing and carpet cleaning.

Must pass drug and TB screening test.

ORGANIZATION

Under the supervision of the Manager and/or Director of Environmental Services.

Has contact with hospital staff. Has no involvement with patient care but does have patient contact.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

• Must adjust to varying conditions in work situations and apply established procedures.
• Standing and walking much of the day. Requires bending, stretching, climbing ladders, lifting, pulling and pushing. Hands in solutions frequently. Subject to interruptions as situations warrant.
• Use of products that are potentially harmful if used improperly. Potential exposure to contagious disease if Universal Precautions and Blood Bourne Pathogen Standards as not followed. Use of semi-automatic and manual cleaning equipment.
• Must wear approved uniform.
• Must follow all manufacturers' instructions on chemical dilution and usage of products.
• Must wear protective equipment relative to product handling.
• Gloves, goggles, face shield, gown, mask, and hardhat must be worn as situation warrants and defined in the Safety Standard Act.
• Follow all infection prevention practices (i.e. proper cleaning process, hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions where and if required and proper use of personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Must follow all department, hospital and regulatory agency guidelines. Wear PPE (personal protective equipment) as required and have complete knowledge and understanding of Universal Precautions and Blood Borne Pathogen standards.
• Performs all duties of Environmental Services Healthcare Technician's II as assigned.
• Must be able to demonstrate competency:
• Dismissal Cleaning
• Behavioral Health
• Isolation Terminal Clean
• Waste Management
• Performs all types of floor care and maintenance throughout the facility, include hard surfaces and carpeting.
• Participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve HCAHPS scores as it relates to hospital cleanliness & "always quiet"
• Will be required to assist other Environmental Services Healthcare Technician's I, II, III, and other Healthcare Floor Technician's as assigned
• Maintains floor cart(s), supplies, floorcare areas, and equipment evidence by properly cleaning clean/empty tanks on floor machines, communication of supply shortages, and restocking/organizing floorcare area in a neat and orderly fashion.
• Move and restage furniture and equipment according to policy/instructions.
• Operate/maintain/clean battery powered floor machines.
• Scrub/strip hard and resilient floors using the proper/technique and product for the flooring type.
• Completes all detail work (Baseboard/corners/kick plates/openings) using the proper technique and product.
• Apply finish to hard and resilient floors using the proper/technique and product for the flooring type.
• Clean carpets using proper/technique and product for application and carpet type.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
• Unlicensed staff to include but not limited to housekeepers, material management clerks, unit clerks, maintenance staff may have permission to briefly be provided access to and be in areas where medications are stored in order to fulfill tasks outlined in their job description.
