Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Health and Wellness and the oversight of the Director of Nursing, performs resident care duties related to strength preservation, physical independence, and maintaining the best ability to function at Martha Jefferson House. Supports the Code of Ethical Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program and promotes the mission and values of Martha Jefferson House both internally and within the community.


Essential Functions:

  • Provides a safe environment for the residents.
  • Complies with proper handwashing and infection control procedures.
  • Performs a range of motion and resistive exercise functional maintenance programs as recommended by OT/PT/ST.
  • Facilitates increased participation in swallowing/self-feeding functional maintenance programs as recommended by OT/ST.
  • Facilitates functional ambulation per functional maintenance program as recommended by OT/PT.
  • Facilitates transfer and balance functional maintenance programs as recommended by OT/PT.
  • Facilitates communication skills per functional maintenance program as recommended by ST.
  • Facilitates Health and Wellness Groups for resident attendance as delegated by the Director of Health and Wellness and post training by OT/PT/ST.
  • Participates in on-unit nursing care using Health and Wellness techniques for ADL, transfer, toileting, dining, and ambulation programs.
  • Assists OT/PT/ST with setting up on unit trainings sessions per assignment by the Director of

Health and Wellness.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Health and Wellness.


Requirements:
Current and unencumbered CNA license. Coachability and desire to learn new techniques.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Education: Core curriculum for a high school diploma or intent to obtain a GED within one year of employment. Completion of a Nursing Assistant Education training program; current unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistant certification from the Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Nursing; or equivalent combination of training and experience. CPR certified.

Job Knowledge: Knowledge and skill of meeting the special needs of the elderly and disabled persons, maintaining sterile techniques, and medical terminology. Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance. Must meet all local health regulations, including a criminal background investigation and reference inquiry. Must maintain current CNA license by obtaining required number of CEU’s each year.


Standards:
Must have a genuine interest in the elderly. Patience and tact. Interested in learning and advancement; ability to work congenially with others. Respect for the principles of resident rights, confidentiality, EEO, and ADA. Must be able to move between multiple tasks concurrently and make decisions efficiently.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Performance Requirements: Regular and reliable attendance; irregular hours when necessary; attending work-related meetings; attendance at all mandatory trainings-quarterly, at 6-months, and annual. Handling confidential information; keyboarding/typing; computer knowledge; maintaining consistent effort through the workday; meeting deadlines; operating equipment; staying organized; using math/performing calculations.
